My older Sony Home Theatre/DVD player sometimes will not output any sound.
Recently, the Home Theatre , when first turned on does not output any sound. It may start in a couple minutes, or take half an hour. It then starts on its own. It has a 5-CD changer. Once, when I was sitting in front of it when it started playing sound, I heard a slight noise from the changer just before it started , like it's somehow caused by the changer locking up, which is odd, because the changer does not make any noise when the system is turned off and on.
It has, for some time, not opened on its own, but could be easily pulled open when it got to the right place in ejecting. It closes just fine. It always makes the noise from the changer right before the sound starts outputting again. The DVD player has never been used much. This is not occurring after DVD use, just when it's been turned off at night and back on the next morning. Most days, no problem. Today, it took more than half an hour before it kicked in. Any ideas?

Testimonial: "Nothing has changed on this system that has not been moved or settings changed for years. I have a manual and have tried everything suggested for trouble-shooting. It truly IS something that has to do with the carousel in the changer, becauseit always makes the sound it makes when you ARE trying to play or eject a DVD just a second or two before the sound starts. When it's not working, it flashes alternately PLEASE / WAIT. It's like it just "decides" to work completely arbitrarily, by me doing nothing."

my dav-340k was working perfectly then after sometimes it lost sound output, even with the full volume no sound at all n no any warning n nor indication. what could be the problem?
You will only be able to use the HDMI if you tv has an output for it(for other things beside built in DVD player of home theatre). It can not be an input. If you want everything that plays through your tv to then play through your home theatre the easiest way is to use white and red composite audio cables(some call them rca cables) More than likely you tv will have this output. They will go from the output of the tv to the input of home theater. If your home theater has a Blu-ray or DVD player you need to use the HDMI from home theatre out to in on the tv. If you tv happens to have and OUTPUT for fiber optic audio or digital coaxle audio on your tv and your home theatre has same but as inputs that will work as well with a better quality sound. However this is very rare.
Please check at rear of TV for Digital Optical IN port as home theater should have optical out port at rear. If you got any optical in port in TV, just connect optical wire between TV and home theater.
2nd option is check Line Out pins at rear of home theater system, if found, hook red-white RCA cable there and put it to same input in TV where you hooked Video (composite or component) cable.
that is possible
the home theater has so many in puts on your dvd and out puts.
there is a way
1 you can buy a vedio/audio converted to rf signals, this will mean both signals entering tv using rf.
2 get your vedio out from dvd and audio out, feed that to a converter, vedio in and audio in okey
plug the stereo headphone jack to your dvd headphone output then connect it to your tv audio/video in and press the tv/video switch in your tv remote control.
IF you have a cable running from the tv to your system from the audio output you may have to turn on or turn up the output in the tv menu, some SONY tv s are like this. If you have done this and are useing a amp like a ONKYO or YAMAHA etc you will have to go to the input assign in the setup menu and tell the amp were the cable is pluged in and which type.
hope this helps.
CABLE GUY.
As most home theatre systems offer no analogue audio input and only use the audio coming from the dvd being played the short answer is no.
If your home theatre system has a digital input and the tv has the corresponding output then yes you could me able to connect the two. Otherwise you could try to get hold of a analogue to digital converter and convert the tv's audio out to digital.
You do not worry about the DVD player, any brand of DVD Player has compatible for that system because the output of all DVD player has already synchronizing the output impedance of the DVD to the input of your system. And you are looking for the best resolution of DVD player so you can try either sony, jvc, pioneer.and many more, but the best thing you can do is to bring the sample CD that you already know the picture and then you can try to play into the DVD that what you have selected.
