Have you tried pushing it down to see if it comes up? Have you tried going to see if there is anything wrong with the Wand itself like a spring gone wrong or something? A camera person can look at the Vu Point Magic Wand and give you a proper diagnosis.
There is probably a software driver that needs to be downloaded to interface between the magic wand and your computer. Go to the manufacturers web site and see if they have one.
The battery cover is the silver-colored "hump" on the right side of the scanner. Just slide it to the right, and it'll unhook from the scanner, giving you access to the battery compartment.
If your wand is N American then "don't do it" 220 through a 110/120 will fry all the magic out of it. You could get a step down transformer 220 to 110. Plug that into the 220 socket and plug your magic wand charger into that.
The cost would not be worth it though ... buy some more magic that is 220. be happy ... not sorry :-)
