Have a Toshiba 500GB external hard drive, model: HDDR500E03X and I've been using it for some time on a few of my computers, but lately it hasnt been displaying. I dont know much about Ubuntu to begin...

Sounds like some kind of bad wire, you hope. It could be a power issue as you have stated, I would try it out on several diffrent computers, and you were not wrong in trying the y cable. But if that still doesnt work then not all is lost. I would recomend opening up the caseing and removing the hard drive. Even external drives simply use standard laptop SATA drives. If you have a desktop you can simply plug in the drive while your computer is off, if you do not have xtra spots to plug it up you could temp unpulg your dvd drive to test it. If you have a laptop than you can buy several devices to use a sata drive though usb. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153071&cm_re=usb_sata_docking_station-_-17-153-071-_-Product

This is the one I use the most.
Good luck , if you have any questions let me know

Can emc ax150 work without the UPS cable?

I moved my AX-150 to a location that would not allow me to install the UPS as it has redundant power/UPS and you should not connect a UPS to the output of another UPS.

Without the UPS the AX-150 forces the Write Cache to be Disabled. Performance drops, form what I have tested, to around 25x slower. This is due to not just turning off the controllers write cache, but as with ALL RAID controllers, the onboard drive 8/16M write cache is disabled as well so the drives are even slower then they would be if they where not used on a RAID controller.

The write cache disable is your real killer! Actually the write cache is disabled one a week while the REQUIRED battery test is performed.

My solution was to write an APC SmartUPS Serial Emulator that talks to the AX-150 telling it that the UPS is working fine so the write cache never gets turned off, including during the weekly battery test!

Here is the needed RJ45 to DB9F. Colors are base on someone cutting off the end of a cat5 patch cable.

You can find the APC SmartUPS commands off the web.

Resource Conflict - PCI on Motherboard Bus:0A, Device:09, Function:00 = CARDREADER PROBLEM

I did try all that, and it didnt work, on a 5050 acer built on a 3100 gabinet.

I think that the problem is that the cardreader chip is not well glued to the motherboard, that's why it gives you that error. If you try pressing certain points of the computer while booting, it miraculously stops giving that conflict error.

We should be payed back by Acer, as this is an project issue =P
