I have an optoma ep749 projector that is shutting down after about 5 minutes of use. Lamp time is 165 hours. Fans seemingly run well. But no matter what it fails. What can I do to fix this?

SOURCE: Toshiba TDP S8 projector shuts down suddenly

The reason why the projector is shutting off is so the lamp doesn't explode. It's more of a safety feature on the projector, you can reset the lamp and it might work for another 500hours. If the picture is still pretty bright I can get you the reset procedure, but be warn that when the lamp does eventually blow it could shatter the glass inside, so be careful, it shouldn't hurt the unit.

SOURCE: My Optoma HD65 Projector stops starts working and

Possible cause is overheating.
Do you hear the fan working?
What happens when you use the lowest level light output?
Does it run longer?

Also possible cause is a faulty temp sensor.
AC wire connection may not be firmly pressed in socket.

SOURCE: panasonic projector keeps shutting off

Try this utube link. I did it and it solved the problem in about 30 seconds! Don't spend any money or send out your unit. This does it.

SOURCE: Optoma H56 - turns off just after start up.

It's not a short, the blub is near the end of it's life ~ the optoma is designed to detect when the blub is about to blow and shuts itself down. Turning the projector upside down or right side up usually only gives you a brief reprieve (some have reported a modest amount of extra time gained) on the blub ~ but in the end it's on it's way out and the projector will shut down again.

My benq projector turns on for a few minutes (light and fan going strong), then it shuts down.

if it goes through shut down mode (lamp first and fans run a while), reset the settings to factory default. while you're in the menu, check the lamp hours (under settings). if they're close to 2000 hours, replace the lamp. if the projector shuts down immediately, fans and all, you have a power supply problem. you'll need to replace it.

My InFocus LP650 seems to be overheating, but only the lamp. It runs perfectly for about 20 minutes and then the lamp shuts off for about two minutes and comes back on. During this time the projector is...

I would replace the fans with a higher CFM fan. You can google the size fan you have and something should pop up. The stock fans are about 20CFM. You can get fans with over double that for about $5. Let us know if it works!

Projector turns on and works for about 2 minutes, then shuts off

You may have to reset the bulb hour counter. Go thru the setup menus and see if you can do it from there. Infocus projectors make you jump thru the hoop.

I have a DLP Optoma projector. It's a few years old. When my wife and I turn it on, it usually shuts down after about 20 minutes of use. what can we do to solve that?

clean it out. it may be dusty inside. the dust keeps in the heat, and if the projector can't cool down, it cuts the heat source- the lamp. also see if the lamp is close to 2000 hours. it may need replacing.

Display is faded and remote not working properly

Despite the "hours left" on your projector, the lamp could be nearing the end of its life. Recommendations:
1. Make sure the vents and filters (if applicable) are clear of dust and debris.
2. Make sure the projector is well ventilated. (i.e. no obstructions around the vents)
3. Replace the lamp. They're around $200 on eBay. After replacing, reset the lamp timer (see your manual).
4. After replacing, run the projector in eco-mode if the brightness is acceptable. This will extend the life of your lamp.
5. Always let the projector cool down before unplugging the power or turning the master power switch off.

I don't know what would cause the inability to access all the menu options.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Optoma H77 - Lamp shuts off after coming on for 5-10 minutes

Hi SoonerJDP

This is indeed a warning that the hours on the lamp has been used up and that you will have to replace the lamp.

Remember to reset the lamp timer once you've replaced the lamp.
