I have colorful horizontal lines running through my imac

Colorful lines usually represent video problems. You will need to take your iMac to an Apple certified repair store to have it fixed. It's an advanced job that can only be done with the help of special equipment.
Good luck.

My imac g5 wont turn on at all! what can i do?

First, you should make sure you you have power to the iMac. Next if you checked you don't have power the iMac and you do, you could bring it to an Apple Store near you so they can diagnose it. Note, " I pretty sure they could diagnose it." Then if they know what the problem is, you could buy the parts needed from sites that have them and replace the faulty parts. You might be able to find how to replace the parts on www.iFixit.com. If this isn't what you are looking for you should probably clarify your qustion because the question has tons of possibilities. Hopefully this can help!!!!
Note: The Apple Store people might be able to fix the iMac for a price.

Colorful vertical lines on 17"

This is typically a bad or loose cable to the monitor inside the computer. While you can open the iMac, Apple doesn't make it easy. It requires special tools, and there is a lot of tape involved. You can go to an Apple store to get it fixed, or to most computer repair places. It will likely cost you a little more than doing it yourself, but if something gets messed up in the process, they will be on the hook for fixing it, while if you did it yourself, now you have two things to repair.
