Even on the lock screen Apple will help you, when you enter your password you used to setup your Apple account. Resetting only will work with that pass word, so no use trying that if you don't have the pass word in the first place.
If you did setup your Apple account correct, you can ask Apple to help you to setup a new password. I don;t know how you did setup your account, but you must have given them a mail address, where the can send you a reset code, or perhaps you have to answer some secret questions
