A new optical block will cost about 1100-1500$ for a tv of this size. I personally would not recommend it and you are better off going for an LED backlit LCD. For 1200$ you can get a very good one like Samsung 6 series or a near-top of the line model in LG

My sony kds-50a2000 picture is green why? I replaced projection lamp the picture was great but now the picture is terrible everthing seems to have a yellow tinge to it and green seems to be dominant...

The problem is the optical block and nothing else but. Contact the dealer from which you purchased the set to see if you qualify for Sony's extended warranty on this very, very expensive part, which may be covered by a class action lawsuit Check here http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=367&mdl=KDS60A2020 The lawsuit covers all the KDS models. It seems that Sony continued making these rear projections even though it knew the optical block failed prematurely. When you get it fixed, go to setup and make sure the cooling fan is on HIGH and power saving is ON. Both of those features will extend your TV's life, including the optical block and the projection lamp. Further, bring a portable compressed air tank to the TV and, with a narrow nozzle, empty it into every opening in the set's back. At least once per month, check for dust settling on the rear of the stand behind the TV -- when it gets thick, get the air tank.

Optical block failure. There was an inherent problem with the optical blocks for this TV and Sony has yet to issue an extended warranty for this model. The only way to fix it is to replace the whole optical block. This is very costly ($1000+) and time consuming (need to take whole TV apart).

There is a pending class action lawsuit for this exact problem. Link to the lawsuit website: http://www.sonya20tvclassaction.com/main/home.sfx

This is caused by a failure of the optical block of your TV. The only way to fix the issue is to replace the whole optical block which is very expensive ($1000+) and time consuming (need to take whole TV apart to replace the part).

The optical block in your model had inherent issues and there is currently a class action lawsuit pending against Sony for this issue. Up to date information reguarding the lawsuit can be found here: http://www.sonya20tvclassaction.com/main/home.sfx

This is caused by a inherent defect in the optical block of the TV. Too much green on Sony KDS-R50XBR1

I have the same model and mine did the same thing last year. Initially had the "green blob" problem, but then it seemed like overnight, an overpowering green push that I could not correct with the full range of white balance controls. Turned out to be the dreaded bad optical block. The OB's are a known problem with this set and its 60" sibling, and the basis of a class action lawsuit against Sony. Under the settlement of the lawsuit, Sony has extended the warranty only for the optical block until June 2009. You can find out more than you wanted to know about it on the AV Science Forum at avsforum.com and they have a link to Sony's web page for this problem. BTW, after my optical block replacement (at no cost), my set has a very faint pinkish to greenish color impurity which fades to nearly imperceptibile after warmup. It hasn't gotten worse over the past year and it doesn't bother me enough to risk having it replaced with another OB which could be worse. Bottom line: it sounds like you need and optical block replacement, which Sony is having done in-home at no cost to you.

Screen is green

You probably have the infamous green blob optical block problem. There was a lawsuit on this for the previous generation. Sony warranties the optical block for 2 yrs from date of purchase, but not labor. Expect $350-$500 in labor...

I have it too...These tv's are horrible quality. I will NEVER buy Sony again.
