It seems that Sony continued making these rear projections even though it knew the optical block failed prematurely. When you get it fixed, go to setup and make sure the cooling fan is on HIGH and power saving is ON. Both of those features will extend your TV's life, including the optical block and the projection lamp. Further, bring a portable compressed air tank to the TV and, with a narrow nozzle, empty it into every opening in the set's back. At least once per month, check for dust settling on the rear of the stand behind the TV -- when it gets thick, get the air tank.

I have the same model and mine did the same thing last year. Initially had the "green blob" problem, but then it seemed like overnight, an overpowering green push that I could not correct with the full range of white balance controls. Turned out to be the dreaded bad optical block. The OB's are a known problem with this set and its 60" sibling, and the basis of a class action lawsuit against Sony. Under the settlement of the lawsuit, Sony has extended the warranty only for the optical block until June 2009. BTW, after my optical block replacement (at no cost), my set has a very faint pinkish to greenish color impurity which fades to nearly imperceptibile after warmup. It hasn't gotten worse over the past year and it doesn't bother me enough to risk having it replaced with another OB which could be worse. Bottom line: it sounds like you need and optical block replacement, which Sony is having done in-home at no cost to you.

You probably have the infamous green blob optical block problem. There was a lawsuit on this for the previous generation. Sony warranties the optical block for 2 yrs from date of purchase, but not labor. Expect $350-$500 in labor...

I have it too...These tv's are horrible quality. I will NEVER buy Sony again.
