E4

What type of machine is it? This is a code to tell you what problem there is and each machine is different. In your manual there should be this information to inform you of different codes like bobbin low or improper threading, etc. Tell me the machine type and I can probably tell you.

My Janome memory craft 8000 will only sew backwards and the screen shows step motor error. the machine is 19 years old. Is this fixable?

step motor error may mean the embroidery arm is out of position gently push it back home towards the machine and see if this helps. If the mother board is gone, they will not be able to replace it as its so old, but you may be able to get an 8000 or 9000 on ebayso you can still use your discs if you don't want to get a new machine
