A magnet the size of a quarter was in my dishwasher stuck to my silverware. This is 1 week old and I don't know where it goes.

Very strong magnet! Could it be part of the latch assembly? It was on top of the silverware basket stuck to my silverware.

SOURCE: dishwasher door latch

sounds as if your door latch/handle is broken internally.your dishwasher is installed with 2 screws to theunderside of your countertop. its tricky but youll have to remove them (adjusting to leveling legs down will give you more room to get some kinda a phillips head bit in ther to remove the screws), once out slide the d/w foward and remove the strike plate door will open at least get your dishes out

SOURCE: streaks on glassware/silverware

usually indicative of clogged spray heads, or spray arms not spinning, too much detergent for your water type, wrong detergent, and low water temp.

Check the manual for amounts of detergent to use based on your water hardness.

SOURCE: Regular cycle no longer cleans well

Thanks for the clarification (we get a lot of people on here that don't know how to really use a dishwasher).

Sounds to me like the DW may need a through going over.

Confirm the make and model of the DW so I can see how it's built. I am suspect that with all the food particles and film you mention, that the spray heads are clogged in the spray bars, and, check that the drain hose is not kinked, and it's attachment into the garbage disposal is clear. I've had these clog before, limiting the ability of the DW to get rid of the dirty water.

Testimonial: "Thanks! I'll try these and check back in after the holidays."

New dishwasher 2 days old dishes cloudy and silverware dirty i use lemi shine tryed vinager

Hi, Your problem lies with a hot water problem. The first fill must be between 125-140 degrees. Run your hot water tap for a lot of minutes. Immediately run another load. If there is some improvement, you need to up your water heater temp. a notch or two. On electric, there are two therms, top and bottom, same here. One a quarter run a gallon of white distilled vinegar thru the dw. Hope this helps.

Glasses int he top rack of my kitchenaid dishwasher don;t get clean. they finish the run spotted and covered in what looks like baked on dirty dishwater. dishes in the lower rack look ok, but the...

If you have hard water, glasses can look spotted and cloudy even after cleaning. Sometimes changing the dishwasher detergent can help. The easiest solution to clearing up glasses that start to look cloudy is to add some vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher before you start a cycle. Simply add 1/4 of white vinegar and it will clear up your glasses very well.
You should see marked improvement after the first time you do this. If they are not crystal clear then simply repeat the process until all of the cloudiness is gone. In fact I recommend to using a little vinegar in each cycle to maintain the clarity of the glass.

Note: you can pre-test this by rubbing some vinegar on an individual glass with a cloth. If you cannot remove the cloudiness by soaking it and rubbing vinegar on it then it is possible that the glass is etched due to harsh or cheap dishwasher detergent and vinegar will not solve the problem.

I have the 4000 Series AquaSurge with speed clean Professional series. I have a white film on the dishwasher and all dishes, glasses and silverware. The right bottom of the door always has a leak about...

With regards to the white film, I would check for a soap buildup. Turn the dishwasher on, let it run for 5 minutes or so then open the door and see if there is suds. If there is, pour a half cup of cooking oil in the water and let it finish the cycle. That will clear the suds. It is possible that the rinse agent dispener has failed and is letting in too much jetdry as well. With regards to the leak, install a slash shield in the gasket, part number 154701001. it comes with instructions, really easy to put in and should fix teh problem.

The dishes don't get clean

Dishes not cleaned properly....

  1. Check the water temperature. Should be 125 to 140 F.
  2. Check pump re-circulation., Listen, see if it sounds like it is spraying the water around with enough pressure.
  3. Check water level when the fill cycle has completed. Should be just under the heating element. If not, possibly need to replace the water inlet valve.
  4. Check the spray arm and pump cover for splits or leaks.
  5. Check to make sure dishwasher is draining after each cycle. There should only be a little water in the bottom of the tub.
  6. Make sure the dishes are loaded properly, or dishwasher is not overloaded.
  7. Possibly try a different detergent. Some liquid-gels will bubble and a pump cannot pump bubbles.
