This switch is a very close fit, and it is rated for 20A 120VAC.

I've used it on that vintage Craftsman bench grinder.

Replacement should be simple. Just do a one for one hookup with the new part, after you unplug it first.

SOURCE: I need a replacement switch for a craftsman 1/2 HP bench grinder

this switch is no longer available from Sears, so I suggest making a wiring drawing and taking the switch to a local electrical supply house and try matching it up with a replacement. It seems to be a simple on/off type switch and I would think that you should have no problem. Let me know if you do and give me the information on the switch and I will try some other sites I know.

SOURCE: Looking for a on/off switch for a craftsman 8" bench grinder

Sears Craftsman is usually easy as Sears Parts Direct has diagrams and part numbers.
However your switch number 31919063033 is no longer available. I would suggest checking out online places like Digikey or Newark for a switch that will work for you. As long as the Voltage, amperage and number of poles and will fit in the space provided you should be OK.

I have an old Craftsman bench grinder that I got at an auction. I need a capacitor and the one on it has no markings. It is a 1hp model 319.19063. Sears Parts direct says that it is no longer available and...

this is a "Split-Phase"motor it uses only a run capacitor and a typical capacitance rated MFD rating will be between 80 and 290 MFD, go to www. grainger..com and they will have your part, and even if its an older unit and the model/serial/number is available take it with you & they will have a replacement capacitor available in the correct size/dimension/mfd/etc

Smoke comes from around the switch when turned on & is slow to turn initially. mine is a fixed speed

If it is under warranty, take it back. If not then it is a simple matter of replacing the switch. Take off the cover and pull out the switch. Mark each wire as you take it off. Take the switch with you to the store. First try a hardware store, then an auto parts store. If they don't have it try Sears. They will probably be able order it. Make sure you have the model number of your grinder. It is on a data plate somewhere on the grinder. If Sears can't get it, try a wholesale electrical parts house.

Have an old sears craftsman 1/4 hp grinder model 397.19501 wires have been disconnected. I want to rewire and test. Does anyone know how to connect the wires? There are 2 copper tabs under the on/off...

the two copper tabs under the on off switch are to break the power source.connect incoming power to one of these(black) then a short piece of wire from the other tab under switch to one of the three tabs under plate that is marked hot or l1 is probably #2 but you need to be sure. the white is the nuetral or l2 which is most likely #3 and the green is the ground most likely #4 I would definately look online for a wiring diagram to be sure if they are not marked with L1 L2 and GND
