Installing Windows 7 to ANY Netbook Using USB Drive

To copy the Windows 7 ISO file to a USB flash drive Before you begin:
  • Make sure you've already purchased and downloaded the Windows 7 ISO file to your PC.
  • Make sure you've copied any files on the USB flash drive to an external location. The Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool will erase any data on the USB flash drive.
  1. Click the Start button d49affd.jpg, click All Programs, click the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool folder, and then click Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.
  2. Under Step 1 of 4: Choose ISO file, click Browse, browse to the Windows 7 ISO file you downloaded, click it, click Open, and then click Next.
  3. Under Step 2 of 4: Choose media type, click USB device.
  4. Under Step 3 of 4: Insert USB device, click your USB flash drive in the drop-down list, and then click Begin copying.
  5. If you see a dialog box that says that there isn't enough free space on the USB flash drive, click Erase USB Device, and then click Yes.
  6. When the process is finished, click the Close button 890548ff-eff6-4f93-ba12-92692a835f86.jpg in the upper-right corner of the window.
To install Windows 7 using a USB flash drive If you don't need to start your netbook using the USB flash drive, you can simply browse to the USB flash drive, and then double-click setup.exe to begin Windows 7 installation.
To start your netbook using the USB flash drive:
  1. Turn off your netbook, insert the USB flash drive, and then restart your netbook.
  2. Press any key when prompted, and then follow the instructions that appear.
  3. On the Install Windows page, choose your language and other preferences, and then click Next.
If the Install Windows page doesn't appear, and you're not asked to press any key, you might need to change some system settings. To learn how to do this, see Start your computer from a Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive.
  4. Follow the instructions to finish installing Windows 7.

So So Happy USB flash drive won't install onto windows xp

Format the flash drive without using the executable installation program on the flash drive.

Insert new flash drive, do not let anything auto-run. View the drive in the file explorer. Right click on the drive and choose Format in XP to let XP do a full format (not a quick format) of the drive. This will ensure that the drive works on XP... it will then also be accessible on a newer system.

XP may also not be able to work with flash drives over 32GB, or will only give you access to the first 16 or 32GB.

Can i install any antivirus in my 4gb pendrive

The short answer is NO, because an antivirus software has to function in compliance with a computer's operating system.
However, there is a relatively new class of software that you can install on your USB Flash Drive and run from the drive.

One such software is the U3 Smart compatible software that you must be familiar with since you have a SanDisk flash drive.
There is also the PortableApps brand of software. These run on ANY flash drive, not just the U3Smart ones.

To be able to use them you must install the PortableApps minimal suite. It is a small Operating System (platform) that will handle the applications on the flash drive. And there is one or two PortableApps version of some antivirus software you can use.

In addition to the PortableApps, you have the LiberKey applications. These can run on a Windows computer or from a flash drive.

Click the links above, download and install on your flash drive. You will be able to add compatible software later, including antivirus applications.

Unable to install card studio 2009 has dvd-rom instead of cd-rom

Hello,

Well, you have a couple of choices:

1) You can have a DVD installed in your computer. Usually around $50.
2) You can purchase a flash drive (thumb drive) of at least 4GB. Depending on the size of the files, you may need an 8GB. You can have a friend copy the entire DVD onto the flash drive. Then you can take the flash drive and copy the entire DVD from the flash drive to your computer and install the program or install directly from the flash drive. (It may auto start when you insert it into a USB port.)

If you install it from the flash drive you will probably have to insert it every time you run the program. If you copy the DVD to your hard drive you will not have to and it will run faster.

Thanks for using Fixya.

INSTALLATION

Hello,

I don't think this is possible. Still we can work on this.

Even I am verymuch Intersted with these kind of issues. I haven't tried installing XP on USB flash drive. But I installed the XP on USB harddrive and it worked.

We can try this with your co-operation. To boot with the USB devices, first your computer or laptop should have the option to boot with the USB devices. You can check in BIOS, under BOOT order for this option.

If USB boot option is not there, then you cannot boot with the Flash drive, not only flash drive all USB devices. They will work only after booting into Windows.

Comming to installation procedure, installtion is same as installing the XP on harddrive. While installing the XP, at partition page, you can see the USB flash drive, select it and continue the installtion.

If your computer has the option to boot with the USB devices and if the flash drive won't boot into Windows after installtion, then we have to set Flash drive as Active partition from Disk Management, and then we can try. In Disk Management, right click on the USB drive and select set active partition. If it won't allow to set the USb flash drive as active, then it is not possible to install XP on flash drive.

Even I googled everywhere on how to do this, but not information.
Try that and let me know the status. But I am sure, it is possible on Pocket drivers or USB harddrives.
