Kenmore 90 Series fills with water but would not agitate or spin

Mod# 110.20924990 or PN 3952986 Kenmore 90 Series (top lid, heavy duty, 3 motors, 5 speed). The washer is about 5 years old. After selecting the cycle, water level, temp etc., and turning on the machine, it fills with water but it would not agitate or spin. After the water stops flowing, there is a little noise. I tried with open lid and closed lid, same results...it just won't agitate or spin. It does not seem the water the water is draining though. As I was standing by the washer, I had to hand squeeze the clothes and manually remove the water out of the washer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have a problem with the motor coupling. Top-load washers use what's called a direct-drive system, meaning it does not use a belt but what's called a "motor coupling". I probably replace 5 a week because these little guys break because of 2 reasons that i've found.
1) The break mechanism is too dry and causing the basket to stop at a holt, which puts a lot of strain on the coupler.

2) They break because of over-loading. I don't think you're over-loading though because it was find for 5 straight years.

Good luck to you. The repair is kind of hard to do on your own for the first time, so I would call an authorized technician. It will run you anywhere between $90 to $120 at most.

Best of luck!

70 Series Kenmore Washer Agitates in Heavy Duty regardless of switch selection

Yours is a 2 speed motor. Does it spin in 2 different speeds. If so, then it most likely is designed with only to agitate in 1 speed. If it only spins in one speed, then your motor is defective

Washer works but smells like its burning.kenmore 90 series heavy

The burning smell could be the motor going out. When the water gets into the tub and makes it heavy it puts strain on the motor and the motor may be getting weak.

Kenmore 90 plus series: heavy duty super capacity won't agitate

this is the site to find out how to fix your washer.
you have a broken drive coupling.
it probably wont agitate or spin, but will fill and drain.
you need to remove 2 screws from the control panel, hinge it back and then remove the 2 brass colored clips that hold the cabinet to the base. once you do then pull the entire cabinet forwards to a 45 degree angle and pull it off the base.
then pull the 2 clips off pump and then 2 more on the motor. that will allow you to get to the drive coupling. you will find it to be broken.
replace it with part number 285753a for about 15-20 bucks.

Kenmore heavy duty 70 series model 82763110

set the load size to small, fill with water.

now after it fills with water do you hear anything? motor noise?

If you hear motor noise, it probably has a broken motor coupler.

if it doesnt do anything I would look at the lid switch and activator, the lid has to close and the switch has to know it closed. did the tab on the lid break off?
