How do I hook up the dvd/vcr combo and direct tv to Vzio tv

both should be hooked directly to tv

VCR side of combo should be hooked up with composite video(yellow, red, white wires) to video 1 input

DVD side of combo should be hooked up component video (red, blue, green wires and red white for sound)

cable box should be hooked up HDMI or component to TV if HD or composite video if SD

You wire the antenna to Dish receiver then to Go Video then to TV.

Yes you need a modulator. The one I used to hook up my Mother's VCR/DVD Combo only cost $15 at Walmart. It was a RCA brand.

Use output of combo player to input of TV. Use what ever available input you have left on you TV. HDMI or Component input is best, but others will work.

All you need is A/V cable. These are yellow, white, and red. If you have an old model TV that doesn't have these, you can get an RF modulator from any electronics store, which will enable you to connect the DVD/VCR combo.

If I understand your request right, You do not have cable or satellite box.
You can not record from your TV. You use the TV as a monitor from the dvd/vcr combo box. What the box receives is what shows on the TV. So you will have to have a digital convertor hooked to the (antenna in) dvd/vcr combo box, (antenna out to the tv antenna in) Depending on the antenna you are using that is on the other end of your cable-in coax connection this will hook to your antenna in on the digital convertor box. If your cable is hooked up and operating correctly and directly to the tv that is digital ready you probabbly have a good picture. When the vhf/uhf signal was transmitted you could go from the dvd/vcr to the tv with no problem. But now that the signal is digital and the tv is set for digital the dvd/vcr will not pass a digital signal to the tv. Best suggestion, you have to get a digital dvd/vcr receiver. Connect your rabbit ears to the Insignia. Connect the Insignia to the antenna input on the "cvd/vcr combo". Now turn on the television to show the "cvd/vcr combo".

The Insignia simply goes between your antenna and your television. In your case you also have a vcr so if you want the VCR to be able to play and record digital stations you will need the Insignia between the vcr and the antenna.

I'd first just hook up the DVD/VCR to the TV and get that working. I'm assuming all you need is the standard cable type connection. This will at least your 4 year old happy. Then you can experiment with the S cable. The S cable will give a cleaner signal from the DVD to the TV. then hook up audio and video cables from the Direct TV to the DVD input. The audio and video will be cleaner using S cables and audio and video cables, but stadard TV cable should get you going. You didn't mention what model DVD player you have. You may have to select the correct inout on the DVD for the Direct TV connection.

I am not sure I understand why you would hook a dvd player to your combo.You should just hook your magnavox directly to your tv.

If that is the only input that the tv has it's still usable. Just plug the Cable TV or antenna cable into the DVD/VCR coaxial input labeled "in" (instead of the TV's) and hook one from the DVD/VCR's "out" to the "in" on the tv. Turn the TV to channel 3 or 4 (depends on DVD/VCR settings) and use the built in TV tuner on the DVD/VCR to change channels.
