ASUS K8N MB On board audio doesn't work. I've verified that correct settings in BIOS but signal is not making it to the plug for Line Out. I just installed SP2 so I'm going after new drivers next. Any...

Check FP_AUDIO pin settings. FP_AUDIO is located just below the CD AUX. See page 1-6, Motherboard layout.
There should be a jumper over pins 9 and 10 and pins 5 and 6. This is the default setting chassis rear MB audio output.
See page 1-22.

Unfortunately the audio chip is soldered to the motherboard. Most newer Asus MBs the audio chip is not soldered and can be replaced by calling Asus.

A possible work around would be to disiable the AC'97 in the bios and add a PCI audio card.

Bios password, how do i remove it. I need to change the boot system to install windows.

Unplug the power cord from the power supply.
The fastest way to clear the bios password would be to first find the bios/cmos battery on the motherboard. See the picture below.
8931cc0.jpg

Next find the 3-pin bios jumper. Asus motherboards usually mark the motherboard bios pins as, CLRTC.
It will be rather close to the bios battery. Pay attention to the current position of the bios jumper. It is currently set as normal. The jumper will cover pins 1 and pin 2.
Remove the jumper and place over pins 2 and pin 3. Doing this will clear the bios and will reset all bios settings to DEFAULT. Grab a small flat- head screw driver. Gently insert the screw driver slightly under the battery edge to help you to remove the battery. Wait 30 seconds and reseat the battery. Reset the bios jumper back to pins 1 and pin 2.
Reconnect the power supply cord. You will need to enter the bios and re-configure all your settings. Use your motherboard manual to help guide you through all your bios settings. Next time include the model number of your Asus MB.

Happy holidays!

I'm installing a card reader that has 5 wire connector tto the mb. The old card reader has a 7 wire connector that fits the mb. Its an Asus m2n68-vm. Thanks

These card readers normally fit the auxiliary USB socket on the motherboard. They usually take up all nine pins, four on one row and five on the other with a 10 socket plug. One pin missing on the end of a row.Such card readers have an additional external USB port as well as card reader slots. If it is just a straight five pin plug but with four wires it just fits over one side of the nine pin USB socket on the motherboard. The black wire goes at the end with the missing pin.

Extra wire /fan 3pin hole 1wire where to plug in X 2 fans

If your cpu fan has a 4 pin connector & your mb has a 3 pin you can still use it. Just leave one pin exposed. The extra pin is for a speed control sensor that not all mb's support. The chassis fan has a different connector on the board marked "cha fan". This one is a 3 pin connector. Most of the asus boards have 1 of these. If you wish to run more than one you can either buy a "y" adapter that allows you to connect 2 fans to 1, you could use an extra 4 pin molex to power an extra fan but that would give you no control over the fan, or you could buy a fan controller and hook all your extra fans to it. Hope this helps & please take a moment to rate my solution fixya. Thanks.
