EOS Utility program cant download pictures.

Previously the Eos Utility program provided with the camera worked well (on XP sp2) and downloaded all pictures neatly into folders for the date the pictures were taken.

Now however, for some unknown reason, this utility doesnt work. The camera is recognised and is listed in device manager as an "Image Capture Device" as Canon Powershot S3 IS.

If I use the windows native tooling I can pull images off the camera (same with Adobe Photoalbum) - but it doesnt sort them neatly by the date they were taken so its a bit anoying.

Any ideas what might have changed?

My EOS Utility for the S3 works fine under XP-SP3, however with Vista +SP1  ( 64 bits ) not anymore. Vista does recognize the camera however the EOS Utility not anymore, similar like origal supplied problem.

1'st thing. You don't have an EOS camera so you won't be able to use EOS utility.

SOURCE: EOS Utility program cant download pictures.

It's very hard to troubleshoot software problems online, and it likely is a software issue. You may fix it, but it will pop up again some day. Camera/cable interface problems are notorious. But why put up with the headache of these software problems? Please see the following post, as it outlines a much easier, faster, and less error prone alternative way to download your photos:

I'm having trouble when I try to download pics to my computer...I am using the usb connection, when I click on the pics I want, then click download, the word "busy" comes up in the bottom...

hi
I suggest you simple instead eos utility program then. first open my computer folder and you will see eos xs picture folder. you hilight on, click right mouse and choose explore. from that point, you can handle. unless you have sd card problem or camer problem.
if still have problem, then I want to get an external memory card reader. it is less than $10.
you put into sd card to usb card reader, you will see a new drive on my computer folder.
rest of work should be easy.
thanks and best regard!

I have bought a canon EOS 300d camera with out cd. bt when i plug my camera to my computer nothing happens .i tried to do download dpp bt all i fine is dpp updater e.t.c . i have windows xp in installed ....

The updater does not need to have a previous version installed, it will install the stand alone program. However DPP is not the program you need to connect to your camera, what you need is EOS Utility. That is also availible on the Canon website.

I have a canon eos rebel xsi 450D. i loaded the eos digital solutions disk on to my windows xp computer. it seemed to load fine. the memory card manager screen appeared on my computer.then a small EOS...

Not a good idea to post your phone # and e-address on this or any other site.

This question arrived on FixYa.

Problem is the camera firmware isn't compatible with the software possible needs a Canon free update or purchase a card reader and download your pictures stepping around the camera.

The computer will look at this card reader with the memory card installed as an external hard drive or memory device.

Download you pictures and then do a safely eject or eject before removing the memory card, once back in the camera remember to format the memory card this give the camera a nice clean surface to work with again.

Switched to MAC - have EOS40D and SX100 - will not download SX100

Yes, you need to install the SX100 driver software as well. I wouldn't overwrite older versions of the Canon software, though, so do a selective install if you can.

Importing pictures using EOS utility

I had the same problem, I think you were missing a driver. if you got to canon usa's page for drivers and downloads you should be able to find it :http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=314&modelid=11154
