How come I don't get any sound from my RCA rt2500 audio receiver?

I've owned this receiver since the Summer 2001 and it worked well until the audio became intermittent several years later. Eventually, the unit was ON but all sound was dead. It turns out that there are solder joints that developed tiny solder breaks. These were found in the main power board on the large electrolytic capacitors and on the 7 power tab transistors that share a large square heat sink. Thermal cycling can cause microscopic solder joint breaks over years of use. After I re-soldered the broken joints the unit worked properly and is still in use in 2017. Consult a qualified electronics repair technician for the repair, which can be accessed via the removable panel on the bottom of the cabinet. Of course, be sure the unit is unplugged from AC power before starting your inspection and repair.

Power problem PAVILION zv5000 (AMD) sn:CND5190R9W.

Yes, I have found that the solder joints on connector terminal on the motherboard become unstable/dry/cracked after a period of time, t seems they are not strong enough to cope with constant movement of plug

Motherboard can be removed and joints on base of power adaptor connector on MB resoldered, once again restoring connectivity from power adaptor plug to mainboard.

Use a moderate temp soldering iron.and thin solder and redo solder joints on power adaptor socket.

Just removing and re-inserting a circuit board can make it look like you have temporarily fixed something as it disturbs soldered joints but as the board heats up, the fractured joints open back up.

Some factured solder joints cannot be seen unless viewed by at least 5x magnification so you may have to re-solder other connections that you may have temporarily disturbed but missed. You need to make sure you only use lead free solder on this model of TV as mixing Tin/Lead (called 60/40 or 63/37) and lead free causes brittle solder joints that are prone to cracking.

The best way to re-solder a joint is to remove all old solder to ensure you do not have compatability problems. I recommend removing and resoldering at least 3 times if you are soldering with a different solder.

If the fault is not down to solder joints, heating the components when you re-soldered them could have made them work again for a short time, this is especially true with capacitors.

One last thought is that most TV's have a seperate inverter board which could be suffering the same problems. You do not mention if the TV sounds like it is working and just has a blank screen (inverter fault) or if the TV is not working at all (psu fault).

Hi.

If it is completely dead check the voltage at power adapter DC contacts using a multimeter.

If there is voltage within 0.5 Volts from specifications, then try starting the laptop with no internal battery. A shorted battery may cause the laptop not starting.

If battery and adapter are OK, then the problem is the DC socket in the laptop motherboard. The laptop must be taken apart and the solder joints soldered back. This is a delicate job and must be done by an experienced repairer.

In some case the whole power circuit or the main board may be faulty. Testing is done reading Ohms at DC socket solder joints on main board (or power board, depending on model).

Regards.

Ginko.

Samsung NP R70 Laptop won't charge

Most laptops will work with or without the battery and with the power adapter connected.
If the power adapter is OK, just connect it to the laptop's power socket and wriggle this plug. Does the charging LED flash as you wriggle this plug? If so the power socket may have a dry solder joint or it may be faulty. Either way the laptop needs to be dismantled to solder or replace the power socket.

Player works fine, speaker works fine but screen is blank...

This dvd player is having a problem with the video input /output circuits. This could be a minor problem with a loose connector or some over expanded solder joints. It could also be a problem with the video ic have a problem with its circuits. The connector problem and the possible cold solder joint problem can be repaired. The dvd player must be taken apart and the connection cleaned and repaired. If the problem is with the video solid state components, you will have to have it repaired by a service center. The video has a main ribbion connector that connects the laser lens to the main board video inputs. This ribbion cable usually will run under the laser transport mechanism. It is connected to the main board and laser transport by clamping connectors. You can look and see if this connector is loose or bent and has lost its function. Try cleaning the contacts points of the connectors and the connectors on the main board and laser transport. Also look for bad or cold solder joints in the areas of the connectors. Try to resolder these points.Use new solder to insure a good connection. Remember to only work on these dvd player with all power disconnected. Always wear anti-static wrist bands and gloves when working on the dvd player to prevent further damage. If the cleaning and repairing the of the possible cold solder joints do not repair the problem, you probably have a bad video chip and should replace the dvd player.I hope this information helps you with your problem.

SYSTEM POWER SUPPLY OFF

If the AC adapter is working but the computer doesn't recognize the power (the indicator on the computer isn't on) and the battery isn't charging, the trouble is probably bad solder connections at the power jack. Because of flexing of the power connector, the jack can break loose from the main board and needs to be resoldered. It's not a difficult repair, but involves taking the main board out to gain access to the bottom (solder side). In some cases the main board can be burned by arcing and heating from the bad connections, and sometimes the damage is too severe to repair. The only solution then is to replace the board.

No power at all. No amber light or green light. Power cord check out fine?? Work great then 8 hours later went to watch TV. and nothing. Any help out there ??

I've been hearing alot about the main power supply board with this model. Mostly I hear that when the power button is pressed, the relay inside will click but with no other response from the TV. This tells me that either the relay contacts are no good or that there are some serious soldering problems on the board. That would explain why it will operate for a short time then quit unexpectedly. Thermal cycling might be stressing the already weak solder joints causing intermittent contact. Personally, I'd love to get my hands on one of these boards.

If it were me and I had nothing to lose, I'd pull the main PS board and touch up the relay section by resoldering (as I believe it is more likely to have bad solder joints then the bad relay contacts). If anyone tries this with positive results, please let me know and rate accordingly.

Hi

This fault is not something you can repair your self.
It is a problem with the DFS module normally dry joints but it is near imposible to do without specialist equipment.
So definately take to repair shop.
Do not attempt this repair.
Sorry for being bearer of bad news.
