If the belt slipped off, this will cause the idler pulley to come loose. This is normal with no tension on the pulley to hold it in place. To re-install, follow these steps:

1. Loop the drive belt around the dryer drum with the groove side facing the drum. (Try to line the belt up with the wear marks already on the drum from the previous belt).

2. With the tensioner in your left hand, insert the clip end of the idler pulley into the grooves on the dryer bottom casing with the idler wheel pointing to your left. (The grooves are directly in front of the drive motor.)

3. While holding the tensioner in place, insert the belt UNDER the wheel with your right hand and pull it up and over the drive motor pulley.

If this does not explain it well enough, you can also verify by going to repairclinic.com. Click on the Repair Help link and look for the "Dryer Belt Diagrams" link under the Special Features section on the next page. Look for Whirlpool and refer to diagram H. If you still have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Dryer makes loud grinding noise when you cut it on

The dryers drum runs off a belt as you may know to spin it around to dry clothes. This belt is attached to a belt tensioner also to keep the belt snug. This tensioner has a roller with a bearing in the middle of it. Most bearings are made of brass and wear out causing it to grind
I would replace the belt & tensioner pulley as a unit. Sears will have these two parts selling together as a kit. Go online to view with your make and model number to see

Dryer will heat up but drum will not turn. Unable

Good day,
Sounds like a broken belt, Excellent tutorial on changing the belt on the link below.
Caution: Some models used a very poorly designed belt tensioner. If the tensioner is that style, replace it while purchasing the belt.
Appliance parts house counter men are well aware of the problem. The Roper line is made by whirlpool.

Belt came off tensioner, and tensioner off unit.

Here is the tensioner diagram you need, for most any dryer.

http://www.applianceaid.com/images/belt-config.JPG

First clean and lubricate the axel of the wheel with some spray silicone. Try not to get it on the wheel outer surface.

Then locate the slot in the bottom of the cabinet floor. The wheel should line up with the drive wheel at the end of the motor shaft.

Place the tang of the tensioner in the slot.

Press the wheel wayyy back passing a loop of the belt BELOW the tensioner wheel and loop it over the end of the small drive wheel.

Release tension on the tensioner and the wheel will pull it taught.

LER6636PW0 drum does not turn

hi fakestar,
here is an exploded view of the dyer, and you can see where the pulley came off.8dd05ba.gifpart number 24 are the pulleys.

another picture is for the belt and the tensioner
1e696ba.gifpart number 53 is the tensioner and part number 56 is the belt.

it just tricky on how to put the belt.

first put the pulley back to its location then slowly insert the drum to the dryer while putting the belt around the drum with the grouve of the belt facing the drum.
have a helper hold unto the drum , in place, then lean underneath towards the motor and put the tensioner to its slot at the flooring, just like in the drawing, then insert part of the belt under the pulley of the tensioner then with your left hand, hold the tensioner pulley and with your right hand, grab the belt which you inserted under the pulley, and bend the tensioner towards the right with your left hand while the right hand is pulling the belt towards the motor until the belt loops to the motor's pulley.

i hope i was able to explain that one.

that is really tricky to put on.

Fitting the belt to the hoover 5050ed

nope,, but
all dryers are generically the same
remove the front panel and door
pull the drum
loop the belt around the drum, at apporximately the wear marks of the old belt
reinsert the drum
loop the belt around the motor pulley
pull the tensioner pulley hard against the spring to the end of its travel
loop the belt around the tensioner pulley
allow the tensioner to move back under spring pressure to tension the belt
rotate the drum by hand to make sure the belt is aligned and not coing to jump off the pulleys
reinstall front panel & door
26740a0.jpg the tensioner may be on the bottom belt run pusshing up, or the top run pulling down
breaking belts sometimes pull the tensioner out of its mounts, there is only one place that the tensioner will reinstall.

Its a standard whirpool dryer, rebadged as hoover, so the local parts guy has the belts rollers felts and glides as necessary, they are common to all the dryers whirlpool makes.

Drum won't turn

it came off the tensioner or it is broke. pull the belt and see if it is not broke. if it is still loose around the drum, then it just came off the tensioner.

look at the manual on how to put back the belt with the tensioner.
