Turn on and red light comes on after two min. and it shuts off
Installed a brand new lamp into my tv and the television still wont come on. the tv powers on I can feel the cooling fan kick on however I hear a distictive buzzing sound coming from the lamp area.
Re: turn on and red light comes on after two min. and it...
On that model its possible for the lamp sockets from the ballast get pushed back inside the tv. Remove the bulb and verify that the sockets are firmly attached to the rear wall of the lamp compartment.

I have a Mitsubishi model WD-60737 and to make a long story short 1st time problem lamp replaced fine for a month til my uncle hooked a DVD player to my TV next day turned on with solid green light then TV kept turning off after 2 to 3 minutes of beingetting turned on and a solid red light to show after. What does that mean? It's a brand new lamp and worked for a month so why shut down now? Could my uncle have did something to where it shook up the circuits or something?
It depends on whether you are able to see a clear image or not. check the lamp first if its more than 2 yrs old you may need a new one, last one we checked with the problem you describe had a fan running slow. The fan nearest the lamp needs to run correctly or the tv will shut down. Good luck !
did you replace the all three lamp the red, green and blue lamp?if not what color of lamp did you replace?try to dis connect the lamp that you installed then power the tv again if it work there might be a problem on your compatibility of lamp u use..or you can replace the convergeance ic there are two big ic in there sometimes labelled STK replace them...hope this could help..good luck!!
Had similar problem. Thought it was the lamp. Examined old lamp but it appeared to be good. Ordered a new one anyway. Changed the lamp but the TV screen would not come on. It would make the usual noise as it was going to come on normally but it would cycle 3 times & then turn off. The LED lights in the front panel would indicate a defective lamp. Then read about the ballast. Changed the ballast & still same problem. Tried starting the TV without the lamp installed & noticed that the color wheel did not spin. Removed old color wheel & discovered it was broken. This appears to be the cause of all of my problems. I wish I new earlier of the test-turn on the TV without the lamp being installed & check to see if the color wheel is spinning. Would have save money on the lamp & ballast.
From what I've been able to find, the problem is the fan that cools the bulb is not starting when you turn the tv on. Blow on it to get it going or clean with compressed air. The fan could be clogged up with lint etc. It's on the rear left of the tv.
