My printer cx5500 says that the black needs replacing but it is new just taken yellow strip off the little white spot below the on off button is red can you help regards gary s

You need to reset the printer, it still thinks that you're using the old ink and, thus, doesn't want to print.. Check this article for more info on how to do it: Solved How To Reset Epson Ink Cartridges
SSC utility is used for resetting waste ink counter, not for ink level counter (chip at ink tank). If you wish to reset ink level counter (chip), you must use hardware resetter, or use CISS chip with autoreset function.
you can download a reseter just to be sure you also replace or wash the ink pad... replacing or washing the pad is difficeult bcoz you should dismantelle the cx5500 coplettely you should have an advance technician skills to do it...
