There may be nothing wrong with the splie/gearbox shaft. At the top of the agitator on the inside is a brass "dog" That may be worn and you will need to replace it.

the agitator has to be pulled out manually the whole pc comes out from the bottom, place a rope or strong string under it and pull up hard. then u can remove the 7/16 nut and take off the agitator coupler or bell housing. , hope this helps

the G.e style agitator just pulls right out and straight up but it may be difficult as it gets stuck often. once its out u can remove the screw the holds the drive bell coupler if u want to get the tub off u need a spanner wrench

I can not get the bell coupler off! I've removed the bolt and tugged as hard as I can but it won't budge!

yes sometimes that is the case,in my appliance repair career it has happened to me to,what i have done use a chisel and bust the agitator bell off, As long as you dont chisel it directly in the center damaging the transmission shaft the bell fits onto it should break apart after enough whacks at it.

Good luck,

My washers tub does not lock when in wash cycle. Tub spins in wash cycle. What could be the problem?

YOU MEAN THE AGITATOR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TUB NOT MOVING AT ALL? IF SO, REPLACE THE AIR BELL COUPLER. YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE AGITATOR TO GET TO IT. VERY CHEAP PART, UNDER $10. VERY SIMPLE JOB

My ge profile washing machine does not agitate. i need to know how to take the agitator off so i can see the coupling

remove agitator cap. if you cannot see a bolt. Ge uses a bell coupler....just pull up with all your might and it comes off. CAUTION: I've hit myself in the face, it hurts....be careful

Agitator is slipping

I have a different model, but my agitator came off with brute force. I used 2 allen wrenches in the slots on the side of the agitator to get leverage and then yanked until it came off. The problem is your air bell coupler.
