I had to shut off the main water supply due to a leak. Do I need to shut off the hot water tank also?

absolutely, the reason being is that the elements will evaporate the water till it below the element on top and burn it out. besides why pay to heat water u cant use. the water could also get low from doing some plumbing and the water drains out and u get the same result

Where is the water coming from that is leaking from the base of the unit? It is not coming from the drip tray, and we replaced the water tank. The water pools on the right, underneath the water tank t

Does it only leak when making coffee? There are 2 hoses, one that supplies cool water to heating element in base the other one that supplies the heated water from heating element to top of coffee grounds. Typically over time this 2nd hose degrades at heating element connection and begins to leak

Guessing your talking about a whirlpool below is the meaning and the corrective actionsneeded.

F/05 Water Temperature Sensor Error If during the water heating step in wash cycle, the water temperature sensor (NTC) value is out of range, or the heating element circuit has failed, the "F/05" error code will be displayed.
  • Check the Water Temperature Sensor, Heating Element and Element Relay
  • Check connections to the Sensor, Heating Element and Relay

After connecting a drain line to the pressure relief valve of my MR85245 water heater, I now have water leaking badly out of the heating element door.

Turn off the electricity.
Turn off the water valve going into tank.
Open a bathtub spout to let hot water pressure off the tank.
Check top of tank for any leaks.
Open the top access panel and see if element is leaking.
Open bottom access panel and see if lower element is leaking.
The reduced pressure on the tank will slow the leak.

If element is the problem, you can squeak by for a while by turning on the hot water heater only when you need hot water.
Order the 'Marathon MR85245 replacement element' online
http://www.gpconservation.com/rheem/marathon-sp213670-titanium-4500w-lower-element
These elements may be available locally, but they are not the same as 'ordinary' tank-type electric heater elements that you buy at the hardware store.
Buy more than 1 element because the Marathon elements have problems.
One of the reported problems with marathon elements is the high price of stainless steel replacement elements.
Drain tank.
Replace element.

Water level below heating element and element does not appear to heat

Make sure the drain hose high loop is installed properly, normally you have this in the sink cabinet high up. Otherwise the water inside the machine may drain "by itself", leaking through the inactive drain pump during the wash cycle and cause this and other troubles.

Heating element broken, water leaking

You have to pull out dishwasher to replace the element. The element is easy to replace once you have pulled dishwasher out. This enables you to reach the area that you need to reach. It is common for a element to brake. On a newer dishwasher ,I would say it must have been defective if it just broke in half.Nothing electrical in a dishwasher can cause it to brake.

If your water level is below the heating element that is normal after a wash. Some unit the water will not always drain (relates normally to low water pressure or hose length or height)

If your water level is below the heating element and your dishes ALWAYS clean then its fine, the water drains out before a new wash so you are not using the same water

if water is above heating element, run garbage disposal to clear lines if one is installed, if not you could have a clogged line/hose/sump/filter

MDB7600AW water level

I'm not sure if it is suppose to fill above the heating element. The heating element may just be there to dry the dishes instead of heating the water. Try using a pitcher to fill the unit manually to above the heating element. If water drips out from below the kick plate then you know the water is not suppose to go that high.

Let’s say the unit is indeed under filling.

Check for a deformed shaft on the water level float. Remove the kick plate and look for where the shaft of the float touches a micro switch. Often the shaft is bent sideways and only engaging the micro switch indirectly. Straighten by hand for a temporary fix or reinforce the shaft with aluminum tape and sewing needle. Keep the retrofit light weight to avoid problems with water overflow.
