I have a Magellan Maestro 4040 I just put firmware version 2.62 on. I purchased a 2008/2009 map update today. When I try to load this new map update I get this message, ''The product identifier of the unit Magellan Maestro is not compatible with this upgrade'', followed by ''Your Magellan Maestro has not been updated with the following components - Map Database 31'' What do I have to do to get this to work for me. You have to go in and delete all files in sub folder map! than copy and paste off a windows based system from the disk. If you check under file version make sure your map file says 21, or you didnot apply the firmware correctly!

You can Update your Firmware Easily.For getting firmware Update you need to Know and to Enter "Magellan Serial Number" in Specified area[Right top] -Then Click Submit Button..
  • To get Update Click here
  • How to Update Guide[Complete instruction] Here and Save it.
An SD card is required if your GPS has a Firmware version lower than 2.36 To check if you need an SD card, follow the steps below:
  1. Select "user options"
  2. Under user options select "system settings"
  3. Select "next"
  4. Select "Product information". Under product information you will see “Firmware version". If it is less than 2.36, then you need an SD card

There is no recent software updates for your magallen maestro 4040.

You just have to wait till a new one comes out.

But the most recent for now is the rev 2.26 version you are having.

Are there any free updates for a magellan gps 4040
  • The only free update for your 4040 is the latest firmware or you can call the tech support of Magellan and ask if you can still avail the latest maps for your 4040 don't forget the recepit when you call them, they may ask you to send it to them for verification.

it is not a scam .then why did you bought it ,i did on my magellan maestro 4000 the firmware update and map but this unit does not come with turn by turn like the old roadmate700 which gave the option to turn on or off turn by turn voice.but what can you do that is life. regardless you must go to magellan website and do all the Upgrades and Maps Updates

Magellan 4040 download problem
try to press the reset button on the left side next to the usb port with a small paper clip or toothpick and see what happens and chk on the magellan website to see for firmware update if it is do it and plug in powersupply and the usb and leave it alone and let it reset a few times until it says to unplug from the usb .also make sure it has a flash sd card in it so you do not lose your addresses.let me know what happens.
