This works for the Uniden D1660 and similar dect 6.0 models:
On the lower right corner of the keypad, press the # [silent] key.
One press put it into 'silent mode', another press takes it out.

Since you didn't specify the model of your Uniden DECT 6.0 system I can only suggest you select it from the list beginning here to download a copy of the manual.
In standby mode pressing and holding # brings up the "Silent Mode" special feature .. unfortunately the only options are to set the time for the device to be in silent mode and no way to turn if off. The solution is supposedly to press the # key again and hold it down, but this does not work either. The only way I can manually return to not be in "Silent Mode" is to reset the base unit!!
