My front load washing machine keeps going out of balance no matter the size of the load. How can I fix it?

My front load washer frequently becomes unbalanced during the rinse and spin cycles. This doesn't happen with every load, just most loads. The size of the load doesn't matter - a small load or a big load can cause the tub to wobble. Plus the machine is big - the tub is 4cf and I've never come near to filling it. When we called to complain LG sent out a technician who charged $150 but found nothing wrong. It is not quite 2 years old. The matching dryer is stacked above the washer using LG provided stacking hardware. The wobbling started roughly 15 months after buying the machine (meaning the warranty had expired 3 months before the tub started wobbling.) Do you have suggestions on what the problem is &/or how to fix the 'out of balance' problem with my LG front load washing machine?

If you take it apart, check and make sure the two springs are not broken and attached t both drum and machine. also, check the four feet to make sure they are firmly set on the floor. and check to make sure floor is stable, not moving up and down with weight. good luck. shocks are well priced at appliancepartspros.com

I presume that you haven't moved the machine and that all 4 feet of the machine are firmly on the floor, so let's investigate a couple of other issues. There are typically only 2 causes of this problem. The first being that the main bearings on the drum have begun to break down, you would almost certainly notice this happening as it will be accompanied by a significant increase in noise from the machine when on a spin cycle (Typicallly a deep whine and rumble which is hard to ignore). The second and most likely cause is that a shock absorber has started to fault out. The LG can be a bit awkward to examine for this, as it will have a solid base so you can't flip the machine on its back and look up inside. However, if you remove the entire lower front panel, you will be able to see the shock absorbers. Signs of wear you can look for would be rusting on the steel lower section of the shock absorber, or excessive greasy black residue on the steel section and at the point where the lower steel section enters the plastic upper section. Unfortunately, it's not always possible to see the wear, or test for it with them in situ. The plastic section is lined with a heavy duty foam rubber that is lightly greased and it is the seal of this material against the steel rod that generates the resistance which gives the shock absorbtion. Without taking them off and testing the resistance against a new set to get a feel for any difference it's often hard to tell (Though sometimes it's easier because you can see by the black mess left behind that the seal has broken down). With the exception of one of the counterweights coming adrift from the drum, which is jut about unheard of on an LG, there are no other causes for being off balace other than fee not firm on the ground, faulty shocks or a failing main bearing.

Here's a start.
Type in 'Sears parts direct" on your computer.
Then, type in your model number.
You will get pictures of your machine, every part there is.
Perhaps you can figure which part you will need.
God bless your efforts.

When washing comforter the ul keeps coming no matter what is dine to level the load?

UL = Unbalanced LoadUL is displayed when the machine/motor control detects an off-balance load, and is steady on while the washer runs a mini-cycle to rebalance the load.
Display clears if mini-cycle successfully rebalanced the load.
If the mini-cycle is unsuccessful, uL will flash until the door lid is opened, allowing the customer to view and redistribute the load.

Frequently off balance and won't spin

Check if the machine is level and if after it has spun, the bowl is in the centre. Remove front cover and inspected all the springs that hold the bowl onto the lower chassis. The bowl should be balanced in a round plastic bowl which is in the shape of a bell. Check if this plastic bowl is worn. There will be pieces of plastic or plastic"dust" all over the bottom of the machie if it is worn.

Good Luck.
