Check your mower belt and prime mover belt, for proper belt installation. Check for foreign objects, such as tree branches, wire, plastic bag parts or build up of leaves or grass clippings. Also check the clutch assembly, that attaches to the engine crankshaft,to make sure it is tight. Sometimes, the bearing in the mower blade spindle is going out, they make a noise when they start going bad. Not,much else could cause this popping noise.I go online, when i need Parts at Craftsman Parts Direct. B. Locke

SOURCE: loud screech noise from deck area

This can be due to a belt slipping or a bad spindle bearing.
And on the difficulty scale,10 being extremely difficult, The belt would be a 1 or 2 and the spindle about 6 or 7 (because the deck usually needs removed for this job)

Hi
There is a pin in the back by the hitch - make sure it is pushed in. If it is pushed in then check to see if there are any oil leaks under it.

SOURCE: tractor starts, stalls when blade is engaged, or brake released

you have a safety switch malfunctioning or a transistorized relay not working properly. Go to www.partsdirect.com, this is sears website. It should be able to find and illustrated parts list for your mower.

If you have spark and compression, the only thing left is fuel.

Check that fuel is being deluvered to the carb (remove fuel line to carb and make provision to catch ejected fuel. Crank engine. Fuel should be pumped from the tank and out the open line at a good rate.

If this checks out (or there is no pump fitted, but there is fuel issuing from the pipe), check the electrical connector on the bottom of the carb. There should be battery voltage on this conection for the engine to run - if not - that's the problem.

If that checks out, the cut-off solenoid (fed by the connection you just checked) is suspect.

I don't think you're using the right word "mandrel". I will need a little better explanation of what's going on and where exactly.

I have a Craftsman LT riding lawnmower and for some reason the one of the blades is a very loud noise. I have tried going under the deck and tighten up the bolt that holds it in place but it still making...

Check for foreign objects caught under the deck, as well as for a bent blade. If that's not the problem, look at the mower deck belt - is it burnt or worn in a spot? Take it off, and see if you can turn the blade spindles and idler pulley freely. If they scrape badly or are frozen in place, that's the problem.

Runs very poorly on occasion when cold. It smokes, sputters and makes popping noises. Seems like it wont warm up. Temperatures usually in the teens and 20's when this occurs.

popping noises are most caused bij lean burn. make sure that there comes enough fuel to the carburator, most of the times there is water or dirt in the carb. clean and blow with airgun special the litttle fuel restrictors. good luck

With blades on and engine off reach under and wiggle each blade up and down. If you have excess play you will need bearings.
