The reverse button is the center of the large dial on the right side. Push in the center and hold it. When you let go, it should stitch forward again.

there should be a control to raise or lower the feed dogs, lower to stipple and high to sew normal. it sounds like you may have lowered them

put the tension to about 4 and make sure it is threaded in a N shape and remember the thread catcher above the needle from the bobbin to left down round tension up to arm down the side.

set dial tension to #3 and stitch tension to #12 try on straight
sewing,check bobbins winder if thread was wind on clockwise rotation before sewing.if ok try to sew and observed the change.

In the center of the stitch length knob (at the right side of the machine) is a button. You would push that button in to get the machine to reverse.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. I finally figured out that I had the straight stitch needle plate (the one with the single hole), rather than the zig zag needle plate (the one with the curved hole). When I changed plates, it worked fine.
