Hi,
The lights on the front of the HP product can be on, off, or blinking (flashing), depending on the status of the product. The lights indicate product status and are useful for diagnosing printing problems.

Many printers need the heads aligned once you install them. Some printers will do a high level alignment however to properly allign them you should use the tools section for your printer and click the align cartridge/heads selection. If you don't see the maintenance/tools tab when you open your printer from control panel, you may be using the generic Microsoft driver and need to install the drivers from the manufacture.
Have you tried performing a head cleaning? Usually running the cleaning process will clear it right up. After cleaning run an alignment to make sure the heads are straight.
You can find the utility in the print driver properties and look for maintanence tab.
Your post "...it prints very faint horizontal lines in color..." is indicative that indeed your color printheads are clogged and would need repetitive deep head cleaning. This is of course would require that you keep on cleaning until such time as the faint color lines have turned to legible print.
it might be a hardware issue with the printer however we still can try the following stes to reset the printer.
1 Take out the cartridges from the unit . 2 Make sure the unit is connected to the wall jack directly without any surge protector. 3 Unplug the power cord from the back of the unit ( without turning off the unit ) . 4 Now press the # and 6 key together , while holding these keys down plug in the power cord back into the unit . 5 Do not release the keys after a few seconds u will find te hp logo or bars moving across the screen .wait while the unit turns off. 6 after one minute turn on the prnter . it will go into alligment phase > let it finish . 7 after its done > try to make a copy
My printer did the same thing. It turned out to be the scanner table cable. the one that you can see throught the glass. When you follow it to the connection, where the ink carrage is, and under the silver cover you might find the flat cable disconnected or loose. I plugged it back and it stopped. Now I have to tackle the ink tray problem.
Hope this helps.
Toby
Check the ink level present in the color cartridge and check whether you have enabled print in grayscale option in HP Director, please disable the option and try to print, if the issue persists replace the color cartridge.
