I would definitely not try to do a factory restore without a full screen showing. Are you saying that the external monitor does not work for system restore?

Its actually virus which is running hidden in system files display unnecessary msg. you need to do if you have rescue disk which comes with antivirus. its an bootable linux based os which is directly boot & run its own os. after booting you have to do full scan . i personally trusted rescue disk KASPERSKY. you can do like that or atlast you have to format the harddisk with new installation..

You get nothing at boot? No BIOS screen? Try this, remove all media, DVD, CD, USB, etc., unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot. OR try to boot to safe mode. Post results.

We have several terminals with keyboards that are used by different people during the course of the day. We had a similar problem with the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys. Solution(s): Straighten out a paper clip and make a quarter inch hook at one end. Insert the hook under the offending key(s) and pop it up. You can easily replace the key should there ever be a need. No ham, no foul.
