Went to upload to computer and now the camera says the memory card contains no images. I even removed the card to see if photos were in internal memory and camera says same thing. How do I access these protected images? Where did they go?

Recuva (pronounced"recover") is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that havebeen accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied fromthe Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted byuser error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bringback files that have been deleted from your iPod, or by bugs, crashes andviruses!
Put the memory card into an USB card reader and plug it into the USB port in your computer, then run the Recuva program.
Simple to use interface - just click 'Scan' and choose the files you want to recover
Easy to use filter for results based on file name/type
Simple Windows like interface with List and Tree view
Can be run from a USB thumb drive
Restores all types of files, office documents, images, video, music, email, anything.
Restores files from removable media (SmartMedia, Secure Digital, MemoryStick, Digital cameras, Floppy disks, Jazz Disks, Sony Memory Sticks, Compact Flash cards, Smart Media Cards, Secure Digital Cards, etc.)
Restores files from external ZIP drives, Firewire and USB Hard drives
You can download pictures from your camera to your computer by using a memory card reader (You can use your computer's built-in memory card reader, if it has one, or you can purchase an external memory card reader as shown in the attached image).
To do this, kindly remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into a card reader. Connect the card reader to the USB port of your PC (if you are using an external card reader).
Now, the memory card will be shown as a "Removable disk" in "My Computer". You can browse the images and copy the images to your computer.
Hope this solves your problem. Thanks for using FixYa.
Sounds like you didn't use the "safely remove hardware" function when you disconnected the USB cable. This can corrupt the card and even the camera. You could try using a separate card reader to download the pics from the card. If that works, and the pics are safely downloaded, then you should format the card in the camera to erase and optimize it. If it doesn't work, take the card to a Walmart that has a Kodak Picture Kiosk and it should be able to read your card. You can print the pics or even make a cd of them. Then, format the card in the camera.
Your best bet by far is to go buy a card reader for $15-20 (less on sale). Plug the card reader into your computer's USB port. Next remove the memory card from your camera and place it into the card reader. If you have Picasa3 (free from Google) it will upload all your pictures with only a few clicks, OR you can select which images to move and which to leave behind. It is unfortunate that transfering images directly by wire from the camera to the computer is the most problematic area of digital cameras. It just doesn't work well and has even caused ruined memory cards on some. The card reader solves all those problems and you will love Picasa3 right away. Good luck.
It may be the images are there but the camera is not reading them... I would try to find a place (possibly a photo retailer or a computer repair place) with a card reader to check out to see if that is the case.
I'M SORRY TO SAY BUT I BELIEVE THAT YOUR ONBOARD MEMORY IS CORRUPT. YOU PROBABLY WON'T BE ABLE TO RECOVER THOSE PICTURES. I THINK YOU NEED TO FORMAT YOUR ONBOARD MEMORY TO GET IT WORKING AGAIN. UNTIL YOU KNOW FOR SURE THAT IT IS WORKING, I WOULD USE A MEMORY CARD. ARE YOU SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST VERSION OF THE CANON SOFTWARE? I PERSONNALLY NEVER USE THE ONBOARD MEMORY BECAUSE I FEEL THAT THERE IS ALWAYS A CHANCE TO LOSE THE IMAGES. I WOULD USE A 4 GIG SD MEMORY CARD THAT WOULD GIVE YOU A VERY LARGE NUMBER OF PICTURES AND THE SAFETY OF BEING ABLE TO REMOVE THE CARD FROM THE CAMERA AND USE A CARD READER OR YOUR COMPUTER IF IT HAS SD SLOTS. I HOPE THIS CLEARS YOUR PROBLEM UP,EVEN IF IT DOESN'T HELP RECOVER YOUR PHOTO'S. I'M SORRY ABOUT THIS. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP,REPLY TO: ARCLIGHT1217
Hey soccerdixie,
I would first make sure that your memory stick is not full, and if it is I would upload your images to a computer and then format your memory card in the camera. If this is not the problem I would make sure that your memory stick is not set to the write protect setting, by looking at the write protect switch on the back of your memory stick. I hope this helps!
Dynamite, have you tried to reformat the CF card? If you deleted the image through your computer and not with the camera, the computer may have removed more than what was needed...
Download PC Inspector from www.convar,com
run the stick through this program- if the images are there it will find them
But of course no images may have been recorded
