Consult your owner's manual under the Maintenance section. Oil your machine ONLY as instructed, using good quality sewing machine oil (NOT 3-in-1, WD-40, cooking oil, or the oil your found in your grandmother's sewing basket).

My Dual Sew Model DS-3500 wont reverse. I have the manual but nowhere does it discuss this problem.

Hey! I think something is wrapped around the reverse mechanism inside the machine, or the gear is broken.
Maybe you should open it and try to clean or give some maintenance on your machine:)

My janome ME 4123 does not do the backstitch and as a result it wont do the buttonhole. What would the problem be, please. Does it need grease inside the machine?

In the bottom of the machine is where the reverse mechanism is. There is a cam that slides on a shaft to reverse it. Sometime the cam get stuck, try using some WD40 to clean it and the lubricate with sewing machine oil if it frees up.

Good Luck

Kenmore 385.1500 sews only in reverse. it is stuck in reverse sewing.

The reverse mechanism lube us going bad. It is accessed from under the machine under the free arm. Usually indicates that the machine is due for a service and oiling. It shouldn't be a problem to get it done at a good sewing machine dealer/store.

My machine has not been used since 2004 and is stuck in reverse How do I fix this?

If it is a mechanical (NOT computerized) sewing machine, it most likely needs a good cleaning and oiling after not being used since 2004. Mechanical sewing machines need to be cleaned & oiled every time a bobbin is changed, every 8 hours of constant sewing, or every six months when not in regular use. Use only good quality sewing machine oil (NOT stale old oil, 3-in-1, WD-40, or cooking oil) and oil only 1 or 2 drops each spot as directed in the owner's manual.

Sewing machine oil tends to degrade over time and will eventually glue moving parts together. Keeping it maintained is a simple way of insuring it will work the next time it is used.

My machien is pulling the fabric forward instead back

check the position of the feed foot lever / button/knob
if it is in the correct feed direction the have it serviced as it may not be connected properly inside the machine.

I have a White model 3900N. Why does it only sew in reverse?

Hello Jan, I have run into this problem many times. The reason your machine only sews in reverse is caused by old sticky oil at the feed dog pivots. Oil your machine with only high quality sewing machine oil. Pay close attention to the two pivots under your machine where the feed dogs attach to cross journals. Oil them several times and work the reversing lever until the feed dogs move freely and easily. It will sew in reverse if you oil the pivots. Good luck.

My back stitch wont reverse

Has the machine been unused for a 'long' period of time? Some of the Janome machines did a similar thing - the oil becomes 'sticky'on the mechanism attached to the reverse lever. Can often be fixed by removing the free arm cover and spraying a little Innox (using the supplied straw) in the area where the lever operates. Work it back and forth .... it may come good. It could need tobe dismantled if it wont free up however. Good luck! :)

Machine sews only in reverse

Be sure you are in the correct stitch pattern...if you are on a buttonhole stitch or a stretch stitch it normal for the machine to sew backwards. Be sure your length is to the right of 0 and not in a strtch stitch model or buttonhole mode.
