SOURCE: Sharp R-510AK Microwave Oven Fuse Blows

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that\'s usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that\'s usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

Here are some links you or a friend can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

SOURCE: R-4H84 Sharp Carousel II microwave oven stoped working

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

The fuse is normally located on the floor of the chassis behind the control panel or between the door switches.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO) / thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

When checking thermostats, if it has a hood fan thermostat, that should read open, as opposed to the others, which should read closed.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or a loose fuse holder, or even an intermittent fuse.

You should do a continuity test on the fuse while it's in the holder (with the microwave unplugged, of course) then turn the fuse by hand or take it out and put it back in, then test it again.

If you remove the fuse, then press the meter leads against the ends, it can allow internal contact to be made and make a bad fuse appear to be good.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

I don't know of a reset button but there is a fuse that you have to remove the outer cover to get to that has a habit of blowing

This microwave is about 5 years old. It suddenly stopped working. No power, no lights coming on, just shut off completely. Can it be fixed?

Yes it can be fixed! the main fuse in the microwave has blown, this is usually caused by a defective door switch, but on occasion it is just the fuse.

Had problem with Sharp R-520L. Microwave suddenly

One of the door switches is the problem. Open the casing, and you should find the schematic diagram. Find the switches, and test if you can. If you cannot - replace all of them except the monitor switch.

Sharp microwave stopped working

Is it totally dead? No display? Or just does not cook? If it made an unusual noise before it 'died' something probably shorted out.... You need an ohm meter to troubleshoot. If the fuse is open, switches and HV circuit need to be checked before replacing fuse. Sometimes on the convection Microwaves (not just Sharp) the fuse will 'rust' and open rather than blow. Or the fuse holder can over heat and fail.

Sharp R-9h91B microwave oven stopped working

If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work.

I have microwave ST/AL25 just outside its warranty. All of a sudden stopped working, changed fuse etc, but doesnt help. Seem like some sort of internal fuse. Anyideas? Thanks.

The fault could be the power supply, safety door switches, or the main logic control board. Any one of these, or combination of these, can cause the oven to act like its dead.
