How do I update firmware for dock when monitors won't display while laptop is docked?

Monitors won't display while laptop is docked. Keyboard doesn't work either. Lenovo says to update firmware, but I need to dock the laptop while doing it, but when the monitors and keyboard won't work while docked, how can I update it?

Hi
My suggestion is to plug your dock to external displayer (monitor or tv) them set to duplicate display mode. Let me know if helps.

Testimonial: "Thanks, for whatever reason the display was reset to just the built-in monitor. Once I changed it, it worked!"

Most likely cause over on your part would be a bad connection from the dock to you. I am not an expert on laptop docks, but try to check that all the cables are nice and secure. Also, check that there is no stray objects in the connections. If all else fails, you may have a bad dock station.

SOURCE: Docking Station problem

I had the exact same problem. When i undocked the laptop i had to reboot it when i put it back, in order to get the USB devices working. By updating the System Interface Driver, located here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67228.html , the USB devices now power back up when you redock the laptop without having to reboot the machine.

SOURCE: Dell D630 Docking Station

First option if using Windows XP is to undock the system then delete the Docked hardware profile in Device Manager, Hardware Tab, Hardware Profiles. Once deleted, power off, dock the system, boot, Profile recreated.

How can i update dell dock?

A docking station is an extension or addition of ports for a laptop computer. Once the portable computer is docked, you can access the docking station's ports, such as PS/2 or USB 2.0 ports, through your computer. Some docking stations have monitors that you can connect your computer to, placing your video on an external screen so you can turn off your computer's monitor and conserve some of your computer's energy. All Dell docking stations will have the same general troubleshooting steps.

Plug your laptop's power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If there is no power going to your laptop from the docking station but it works when the power adapter is plugged into the wall, the docking station is bad and needs to be replaced. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power goes on but your computer doesn't recognizes accessories such as a USB mouse--plugged into the docking station, try a different port on the station. If it works in a different port, the previous USB port is burned out. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power is going through the docking station but no accessories are being recognized, you might have a corrupted docking profile. Undock the computer and dock it again once it has fully started up to reset the docking profile. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If you have an external monitor and it is not working, completely close the lid on the laptop so the image will move to the external monitor. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power is going through the docking station but no accessories are being recognized and resetting the docking profile fails, update all drivers through Dell's support website and then re-dock the computer. Some of the software that runs the hardware may have become corrupted. Hope this helps

With Windows XP and Dell Latitude docking station, Dell 2001fp set to DVI, goes to Power Save mode and no display. It works fine with VGA input. It had been working fine for ~2 years.

Update Bios & Video Driver Also right click on my computer,go to properties,go under hardware, you can see hardware profiles, delete the dock profile (while the system is off the dock) & then dock & restart

Hannspree 19" HF199H LCD - Display is LARGE on monitor!

Try Control Panel - Appearance or Display- You can change how your 2nd display looks there.. Sounds like you have it set in Clone mode...(both displays show the same things)...See if you can reset the 2nd display resolution while keeping the laptop in its normal resolution. Not all machines can do this...but most recent ones should be able to.

Inspiron 600m,"no input signal check video cable"?

Do you have an external monitor for use when the laptop is on the docking station? If so, does your laptops screen come on when it's not docked?

If you're using an external monitor while the laptop is docked, make sure that the screen selection is for external monitors, by pressing/hold the FN key and then press the F8 key to cycle through the choices between LCD, Monitor/LCD or Monitor only.

USB ports in docking station stopped working suddenly

I was having the same problem - the USB ports seemed to have stopped working so I could not use the mouse, keyboard, or printer, even though the monitors and power could still operate through the docking station. Finally, I just unplugged the docking station for 30 seconds, plugged it back in, and everything resumed working. I was surprised it was that simple, but it's working for the moment.

Docking Station problem

You can try to update any system utilities drivers and docking station drivers. However, I found that with IBM and Gateway, when you remove a running machine from the docking station they tend to glitch just a bit and when you redock them they have issues. Your issue is the docking station attachments, I've also seen issues with the monitor only, mouse only and keyboard on the laptop, all not working. I've had a couple that if I used the "safely remove hardware" then they would work when removed then redocked, but not all machines give the safely remove hardware option with the docking station. If yours does, try that. If it doesn't and there are no driver updates or the updates don't work, then, unfortunately, I'm afraid you'll just have to live with restarting after every redock. One other thing you might try is, after redocking, do a hardware search. It may find the attachments. I know this is also a pain, but it may be easier than rebooting every time.
