My laptop was working fine Fri night and sat it was black when I went to turn it on and it has stayed that way all wkend~! I have taken the battery out and shut it off and on and still nothing. The little...
The little "stack of CD's" is a hard disk activity light.
In an ACER, if it blinks on boot, you may need to pop the PC open and bridge the BIOS jumper to reset the BIOS... Not fun nor easy, but possible.
Because you didn't state you added RAM, changed a BIOS setting, etc, we'll continue as a regular user:
First to check:
When you power on, do you get a BIOS screen? Meaning quick text showing pc info, RAM, or a splash screen (picture) saying the manufacturer, HP, Acer, ASUS, Toshiba, etc... Can you tap F2 (Acer), F10 (HP/Compaq) and enter the BIOS?
If NO,
your motherboard may be to blame, the timing of the flashing lights indicating an error, or your hard disk has died and a poor BIOS could not translate that error to the user in text format.
If YES,
Does it continue on to show a Microsoft Windows Logo, or logo depecting your operating system (os), Ubuntu, Xandros, etc?
If NO: your hard disk may be failing, physically loose, completely dead, OR your os may be corrupted. You can unplug it, pull the battery, hold power on for 10 sec, flip it over, unscrew the hard drive cover, re-seat the hard disk (pull it out, put it back). Repeat for the RAM. Add the battery, plug it in and retry.
If YES,
And the pc starts loading Windows, Ubuntu, etc, but HANGS with the hard drive light flashing, you may have a simple driver conflict issue. You can try repeatedly tapping F8 while booting and select "last known good configuration" (windows only). It may help, or you may need help.
:) Sorry!
