Acer AX1920-UR20P computer will not connect with Internet, I have tried wireless and ethernet connections.
I have wireless adapter. Still won't connect to Internet. I have also tried using Ethernet wire directly from modem to tower. Has to be a setting for Internet hookup somewhere.
Hi Darin we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? what is the operating system you are using. Windows 8.1 ? Do you have other computers hooked up already to the network ? Suspect DHCP setting needs to be turned on Laptop. How is the wireless router hookup up to the network is it just been purchased by you and plugged into network with an existing router on an existing ethernet network. Provide network equipment make and model numbers and someone will know what your situation is. (if you just added the Wi FI router to an existing ethernet network with another router the DCHP server of the WI FI could be clashing with the DCHP server of the existing router and turning off the DHCP server in the new WI - FI router would help ) Let us know the full background on your situation and someone here will be smart enough to suggest a solution based on the information provided.Hi Darin we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Is modem in bridge mode? sounds like you try wireless first. the router would then do the dhcp to get you on the net I would hook modem to router to tower. you may also want to power cycle them.

Attach a Ethernet cable to the laptop, Open Device Manager, Network Adapters, Uninstall the Wireless adapter, reboot, Allow the software to apply the generic driver, try to connect to wireless network. Post results.
your ethernet card went bad look at ethernet cord right down info take to computer shop or walmart and replace ethernet cord most of time it compatable to any windows any eathernet card now sound card different.
You're showing a wired connection on your network adapter, yet claim that you are connected wirelessly. The firewall has no bearing on this- put it back on (windows firewall, that is). Here is what you should do. Remove your wireless adapter from your computer and shut the computer down. Restart your modem, and after it reboots, then reboot your router. After those two have rebooted, restart your computer, making sure to use another USB port for your wireless adapter- so that it has to be recognized (again) by windows. Let me know how this plays out. Thanks..
The best way to check if the computer can access to Internet is to boot the computer to "Safemode with Netwroking", to do so, restart the computer and as soon as it restarts keep on tapping F8 key, now select "Safemode with Networking" from the Advance boot menu. Try to connect to internet. If you are able to connect to Internet then the issue is with the firewall on you computer, contact the firewall manufacturer or settings. If you are still unable to connect to Internet, then the internet setting are not correct, you may need to contact the ISP.
On the bottom right hand side of the desktop you will see the wireless icon, right click on that ans click on troubleshoot problems. This will reset the adapter and assign an IP address for your your PC.
Try to check on the device manager if the wireless adapter and the ethernet adapters were installed properly. If it appears with a questionmark, uninstall it and try reinstalling it without the ethernet cable connected.
If you are using Vista system, after installing the adapters, go to the network connections and just click on tcp/ip then click on properties. Exit from the window by clicking ok until all windows will be closed for the network connections. Reboot your pc and try if you can obtain a connection.
That would depend on how you would like to get the internet connection to your ACER.
Option 1
Ethernet line
Benefits: Faster connection, easier setup, more secure
Cons: Wires must be physically routed requiring drilling through walls or passing through vent openings.
What you'll need:
Router
Cat 5 ethernet cable from router to ACER and to your HOST PC
Ethernet network interface cards (NIC) in both PC's
any length of cable exceeding 100-150 feet will likely need a network Hub to boost signal strength
Option 2
Wireless
Benefits: Wiless acces to host PC(no drilling through walls etc.) can connect multiple PC's by simply adding a wirless card to new PC
Cons: prone to interference, less secure, setting up security protocols can be cumbersome
What you'll need:
Wireless Router/Access Point(AP)
Wirless adapter for remote PC (ACER)
Someone who is knowledgable about Wireless security to setup the firewall settings in the router.
OK so now that you have the options you can decide which is best for you.
Ethernet : If your willing to drill holes or pass through vents this will give you a faster connection
Wireless: This makes for a no mess/no fuss connection but at the expense of security and potential interference from cordless phones etc..
If you need help setting up your Network connection after you decide which you'd like please feel free to ask.
