Hi, the fisrt step is to connect a toslink cable from TV output to an amplifier with optical input, or if your amplifier has only analog audio inputs (RCA red and white connectors), you have to use an digital to analog converter device. After cables are connected, usually you must change which type of audio connection you will use in TV menu, in audio options.

I am trying to hook up a Sony Blu-ray disc player (BDP-S1700) to my Onkyo TX-NR801 AV receiver using a coaxial digital cable but cannot get sound from the AV receiver.

"Onkyo TX-NR801 AV receiver using a coaxial digital cable but cannot get sound from the AV receiver." In onkyo amp, choose DVD, then in digital audio settings choose coax1. Then enter. In blu ray player, digital output selection choose auto or bitstream .

How to get sound from digital coaxial output? Trying to hookup to surround sound system but getting no sound

Digital out put needs a digital input to go into. You also need to set up your television to use the digital sound. That is in the audio menu.

I have a 42 in LG HDTV and a dish satellite and a LG surround sound system how to I hook these up to hear sound while watching the sat

See if your satellite receiver has a digital out socket in the back ( optic / coaxial ). If so get yourself an optic/coaxial cable and link the TV out to your LG Home Theaters optic/coaxial In.
Now if your Satellite receiver does not have a digital out for sound you will have to connect the TV's audio out to the LG Home Theater Systems Aux / SAT / CBL input using appropriate cables .Either 3.5mm phono to 2RCA or 2 RCA to 2 RCA cables.

I have an avr 3200 can it use 2 coaxial inputs and how good is the sound quality compared to newer avrs

Denon being one of the best names in the biz and this being an upper-crust modfel, I'd say anyone without a 'golden-ear' would be hard pressed to t\distinguish its sound from any other amplifier in existence.

The Denon site doesn't list and AVR-3200, but the AVR-3300 has 1 coaxial digital audio and 3 optical digital audio inputs.

If you're looking to run multiple coaxial devices and there aren't enough inputs this is what I do...

Helpful hint: Coaxial digital audio cables can be joined using an RCA cable splitter so they can share a given input or distribute a given output to multiple places. You just have to remember to have only the DESIRED units turned on when sharing or there will be digital confusion on the buss and it will result in silence or horrendous noise.

I hava a insignia dvd receiver is-htib102731 and want to know what optical digital audio cord to buy for sound on my tv

gailsplaytim,
That really depends on what audio inputs you have on your tv. Your Insignia has composite audio outputs (Red and White) and digital coaxial and your tv most likely will have at least composite inputs.

The easiest way to connect your dvd to your tv is just to use the composite as you will not hear the difference in sound quality between the two through the speakers built into your tv.

If you want to run digital audio into your tv for a reason such as the tv's audio output is running to another device like a receiver and you want the digital audio to transfer, you need to look at what digital audio inputs you have on your tv. The only digital audio output on your dvd is a digital coaxial. You can buy digital coaxial converters online. If your tv for example has a toslink input, there are digital coaxial to toslink converters relativity cheap online

What kind of optical or coaxial cable do i need to get exces to dts and dolby digital

To get DTS and Dolby Digital sound you will need one of a few types of digital cable to connect the digital output on a device to a digital decoder or receiver. One type of digital cable is the SPDIF Coaxial, which is a single cable that can transmit high quality digital audio. Another cable for digital sound is the Toslink Optical cable which uses plastic or glass fibres depending on the cost to transmit light which is then decoded into sound information. With optical cables the signal can break if the cables are bent too much. The other cable that can be used is the HDMI cable, this is used to stream HD video and HD sound formats such as DTS HD Master Audio and Dolby True HD, these can of course stream the standard Dolby Digital and DTS signals, but for what it is worth I would recomend a SPDIF Coaxial cable. These can be found at hi-fi shops and places such as Maplins or Ebay. They are also cheaper than the other digital cables and more reliable than optical ones. Any type will do as long as you have a decoder or home receiver which can convert the digital information into sound. Infact you can use an RCA composite cable and connect that into the coaxial ports at either end. This will transmit the digital information, but not as good quality as a proper coaxial cable, but you still get the DTS and Dolby Digital formats with full surround sound. I hope that this helps.

I was using my vsx D510 with a hiteker dvd player

Each digital input is assigned a name and a function by you. You have to dig out the manual and assign the digital inputs.

My $.02. Why do you not want to use the coaxial imputs? There is no functional superiority of one over the other BUT coaxial is a) cheap, since it uses standard RCA cables; b) adaptable, since you can splice or split them among two devices; c) not delicate or prone to failure due to tight bends. I share one coaxial input between two digital device with an RCA splitter cable. Just have to make sure to turn the one I'm not using OFF. Try that with optical.

On the digital input 1 have the coaxial cable hooked up to blu-ray player but i have no sound, but if i hook up optical i do have sound.. wrong coaxial cable

Possibly a bad cable, but not likely its a 'wrong' one. Any RCA-style cable will do for SPDIF coaxial digital signals. Try another one. Are there other Digital Coaxial inputs you could try to prove the function?

You may have to configure your Digital Inputs so the receiver knows Digital Input 1 is Coaxial.

My digital audio out does not appear to work nor is the regular out (white and red consistent). I want to plug in Direct TV and DVD via HDMI and use a signle digital out to the amplifier--doesn't seem to...

The reason is that the HDMI audio is not supported by the amplifier.
To receive digital surround sound from the amplifier, connect Coaxial OUT of the DVD to Coaxial IN of the amplifier. You will experience digital sound from the amplifier.
