How can I tell which inverter board on my Bravia LCD tv is bad?

When I plug it in, the backlight kicks on for a second then the set goes into standby mode with 13 standby blinks. I looked the code up and it says there is probably a problem with the inverter boards or lcd panel. I read that the inverter board is more like the culprit. How do I figure out which board is bad? Should I replace them all? What could cause this problem?

Inverters do fail- look around the edges of the LCD panel for a flat cable & connector.
One may go to the main board but you should find another with fewer conductors to a smaller board.
It may be marked with "TDK" a popular supplier for these.

of times the LED fl ashes translates to a probable source of the problem. A defi nition of the STANDBY LED fl ash indicators is listed in the
instruction manual for the user's knowledge and reference. If an error symptom cannot be reproduced, the remote commander can be used to
review the failure occurrence data stored in memory to reveal past problems and how often these problems occur.
DIAGNOSTIC TEST INDICATORS
When an error occurs, the STANDBY LED will fl ash a set number of times to indicate the possible cause of the problem. If there is more than
one error, the LED will identify the fi rst of the problem areas.
Result for all of the following diagnostic items are displayed on screen.

Sony BRAVIA Fails to fully Power ON. TV shuts off when backlight should kick in, after logo lights and fades. 'standby' blinks 6 times.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

Klv32s310A sony bravia gets start on with green light and after a second turns to stand by mode blinking the red light 6 times after each 2 second interval

Hello Sagar,
green led means tv powered on and status ok.
Red blinking light almost always means defect, overcurrent or overload.
6 blinks for Sony lcd flat tv means trouble in backlight circuit, or backlight inverter (backlight illumination or lighting makes your tv screen visible).
common problems in the inverter circuit, which drives the backlight, or shorted drivers, or short-circuit transformers or open circuits.
You should find the problem in the inverter circuit, or in the power supply board or in the main board.
Also look for bad capacitors (electrolytic caps) which are bulged and swollen on top.
Decoupling plugs from printed circuit boards can help you in finding the problem board by elimination method.
If you power up the set after unplugging certain plugs on f.e. the inverter board , this could result in getting a green power led and concluding that this board is faulty.

succes,
Walter from Antwerp, Belgium.

Why my LCD TV blinks picture and goes off when backlight is high

When you set the backlights to high it causes the inverter board to generate more energy, as well as consume more from the power supply, all the while both are generating more heat. If you have your set mounted (restricting the vents) and/or you regularly use the high setting, that could cause capacitors to bulge and leak due to excessive heat damage. I would open her up and have a look at the power supply and inverter boards. Check for bad caps or board surface discolorations.

Standby LED blinks 4 times

Hi there,

4 blinks on a Sony Bravia indicates a backlight/inverter (aka ballast) problem. These ballasts are regrettably only available with an entire LCD panel. :( You may perchance be able to find a parts outfitter online that scraps out TVs and have a used ballast.

Typical backlight problem on an LCD shows up as the screen lighting up for a second or two and going back off. The 4 blinks just confirms your problem.

Standby light blinks 13 times

Hi,
13 blinks is backlight error.. can be 1 of 2 things, 1st bad inverter board (on left side panel looking from back) it has several plug ins to the panel as it supplies voltage to the backlights.2nd could be panel itself as backlights are built into it they can't be replaced. Inverter is probably around $200 +labor, panel= buy new tv... they are outrageously expensive. Good luck!

Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 standby light blinking

I just worked on this last week 13 blinks means there is a problem with the backlights. So it can be 1 of 2 things bad inverter board( which costs less than $200) or the panel in which case you can thow the TV away as it will probably cost as much for a new TV.Unfortunately the set I worked on ended up being panel. If you try the inverter board just take your time removing it its plugged in rather tight I gently tapped it out with a screwdriver to get it started.

Tv immediately turns off

Four flashes indicates a problem with the backlight on the TV. It can be caused by the backlight inverter board (the power supply for the backlight) or by defective backlights in the panel It is USUALLY the backlight inverter board that is bad, but I have seen both components fail at various times. This set is fairly new and should still be withing the one year warranty, so you should contact Sony at 800-222-SONY to get it repaired. Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!
