I have a "new" relatively unused C510 laser, just out of warranty and printed 1650 pages so far; on any print job cant seem to get through a job without t 201 paper jam error. Seems to happen at random. Did all the basic fault corrections.
On jam -there is no paper jam at all. Just need to open & close rear door press go button and away we go for another awaiting random stopage.
Had Lexmark service (costly!!) and replaced paper sensor; then another service to replace the paper roller - all the while no change in behaviour of the C510 201 paper jam errors - just the thickness of my wallet was altered -now its very thin -I could use it as paper if need be! Finally I'm told that for my $700.00 those "repairs" did not fix it. Now they can assure me it will really need another $800.00 service to replace the engine controller - are you sure? I asked. Well...err...nope, ..Mmmm they think it will fix it - well thats what the manual says!! What a circus!!
Do I have any other options besides using this wasteful purchase as a new spare anchor my boat?
Mac
I have c510 and I have little bit of damage on the fuser. Some body scratch the surface of the fuser. can I get new surface on the fuser. pls. give me the solution
thanking you
The problem with my 510 was that the length of the plastic tab that the paper actually touches was a tad too long and so it got caught. I took the entire arm out, cut ~1/20 of an inch off of the end of hte plastic tab, and viola it works just fine now.
You cannot disable the sensor...its connected directly to the motherboard. The sensors no matter what manufacturer are black, therefore, hard to see!
a tiny bit of black gold, gear oil will help!
we have a Lexmark form printer that is sticking, & a tiny...and I DO MEAN tiny drop of oil, does help.
3 in one oil does wonders.

Thanks MACer, that solved my problems, here's a few pictures where you can see that paper sensor flag.
I thought it saves some trouble to find that thing.
Removing and unplugging the sensor is not an option, tried that and that caused error 241.
I daily repair Lexmark printers and 2 models that I work on have the same issues and in this case it turns out that the exit sensor is the issue though it is not the sensor itself. What I have found to be the problem is the sensor switch it has has a thin long arm that the paper trips and if this has been broken then the paper passing won't activate the sensor (usually this arm gets broken when there is a random paper jam and the toner and photodrum assembly are not removed before clearing the paper jam) Now there is a newer model that I have started seeing with a similar exit sensor issue but this on is just that the design is so bad that I recommend that the switch just be removed because it is just garbage and unplug/disable the sensor from the options board. Hope this is helpful.

YEP, It has been happening to me as well ever since I purchased it almost three years ago. I have been shopping now for a new one now, I have decided to just get a inkjet printer. They have really came a long way and I can't afford to waste anytime anymore on my paper jams, which from what I have read are unfixable.
Yes I am having exactly the same problem also with my Lexmark C510 also just out of warranty and low print count. It started happening a few months ago, it will occassionaly randomly print, but these days more often it will not print. First it will say error 201, then it will say to check rear door. Never any paper jamed. Sometimes just enought to press the go button after the error 201 and it may print. Have checked all paper path and there are no debris to be seen.
HI Fellow C510ers,
Well, I can report some great news. I have a solution. Now it does not cost around the $1500.00 mark! Actually, it will cost you as much as 20 cents. I'm so glad I did not pay $800.00 to have a new engine card installed.
It is along the lines of the posting from the guest on 22nd Dec.
Yes the problem all along has been the paper sensor flag - a little bit of plastic that tells the system that the paper is in position. The flag jams. Why? Because it has a long plastic shaft and at the ends it has a plastic housing. The shaft must rotate in the housing to let the flag fall back to the sensor. The housing is where it sticks. Put some molybdenum grease (molyslip), a dob about 3 mm long x 1 mm wide, on each end of the flag shaft, at the housing. Swivel the flag and shaft gently until the grease is distributed. It will solve the problem I have described in my post.
I have since printed 400 pages without a 201 jam!!!!
Can anyone advise how to disable the sensor in the options.
Much apreciated.
Chris....
Can anyone advise how to disable the sensor in the menue options? I have the same problem with random jam 201 but open and close the door and everything is fine. There is never any paper jam. The plastic leaver is still intact and seems to be swing freely!
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers.
Thanks MACer, lubing that little ****** worked!
Paper sensor flag
In case it takes a while to find it.
Quest: Removing the sensor is not possible, then you get error 241.
