It sounds like your laptop came with a OEM OS of Windows Vista, probably 64 bit.

As far as 7 goes, you can do an install of it. If your HDD is wiped, then just insert a Windows 7 OS disk into your dvd drive and the proceed to do an install. After the OS install you will need to install drivers and additional software to unleash the laptops full potential as a computer.

I have added a video to aid your install. ( As a certified PC tech I recommend going with Windows 7 as an OS, its much better and safer than Vista)

It would probably not install, you may want to try the vista drivers for your laptop though. 9 times out of 10 they will work on whatever windows does not automatically install.Go in to device manager and see what devices are not install, and just go after those.
click on the START ORB - RIGHT CLICK ON COMPUTER - GO TO PROPERTIES - CLICK ON DEVICE MANAGER.
anything not installed will have a exclamation point, just focus on that.

Windows 7 cannot be compressed in CD because the size of Windows 7 is 4.5 GB, So Windows 7 comes in DVD. You should install a DVD Drive and then try installing Windows 7.

Normally you do not need any drivers for Windows 7 as you can choose Windows 7 to download the drivers for your computer through the internet at the beginning of the installation, if you are installing on a working laptop. Also most of the drivers are installed by Windows 7 itself.

You can look for drivers on your laptops manufacturer website.

The drivers for Wndows 7 most likely will not work on Windows XP.
If this laptop came installed with Windows 7 it may not have Windows XP drivers.
Before you install Windows XP check the LG WEB site for Windows XP drivers for your model laptop. If there isn't any XP drivers then I suggest you stick with Windows 7.

Yes you can install Windows 7 operating system on this laptop, you just need a Windows 7 installation disc and then run it to this laptop and do a fresh installation.

Microsoft says that this is not supported. They recommend a clean install, but apparently you can use their Windows Easy Transfer tool to save all your data, settings, and programs.

You can't upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 7--it will fail telling you you already have Windows 7.

You need an original Windows 7 installation CD to change from Vista to Windows 7.
After purchasing the installation CD, simply install it and Windows Vista will be replaced by Windows 7.
