A black box is covering my tv screen except for around the edges. I can use the dvd player, but i cannot watch cable. it is as though there is a security feature to block tv, but i cannot get it to go away!

The yellow/red/white cables are COMPOSITE cables. COMPONENT cables are RED/BLUE/GREEN. You can buy those at any electronics store. Your best bet, though, is to stick with HDMI if you can.
Cable damage is the first thing to check. If the cable is external this is an easy check by trying a new one. Otherwise it is probably internal cable damage or damage to the video output plug.
hi there, is you tv black box hd? if this is hi-def you should have red/blue/green cable in/out to & from tv to box....dvd is out jacks to tv digital in..in order to watch the dvd using remote tune to source tv/av1/av2/cable more
There should be video in and video out on the dvd player. You shouldhave the wires going from video out on the cable box to video in on the vcr. Then you should have video out on the vcr going into the tv
If you have the DVD Player connected to the vcr, it is the copy right protection software that is doing it, this is on every single DVD to defer con artist. A way to fix this, is to get a video image stabilizer, or find a way to work around the VCR. If this does not fix the problem, it is possible that the video output on the DVD Player is malfunctioning somehow
