I have an ativa shredder model MD 1250. Became jammed on some staples. Reversed it and pulled it out but no the auto shutoff won't work Is it fixable? The shredder still runs.

If it is only running in reverse the most likely cause is a faulty switch as the switch just reverses the polarity of the power to the motor. Also check that nothing is covering the proximity sensor in the throat of the shredder.

The shredder will only constantly run in the "Reverse" mode. The trigger located in the center of the feed entry slot, which activates the shredder, may be blocked. To clear it, you would need to insert an index card or file folder (i.e. rigid paper or cardstock) in the center of the feed slot and apply force.

Please make sure that you've emptied the shredder bin because a full bin can stop further shredding. Also, cleaning the shredder teeth to stop paper jams would be good as well.

Unplug it. Lift the shredder unit off the catch-bucket. Remove any paper caught in the blades. You may need needle-nose pliers to pull jammed paper out from between the cutters.

Just pull the waste container out and dump it and reinstall it and make sure it goes all the way back in.

Read ITS RATING or remove it and buy from electronics shop.

On the right side of the waste basket(as you face it) is a tab that pushes a button on the shredder when it is in place. The tab is not making contact with the button. Push the side of the basket where the tab is when you have paper to shred in it. If it begins to shred, you may have to bend the basket inward so that the tab makes contact. I have had this problem.

Cleaned the sensors with warm water and Q Tips. Works fine now..
