If it was just a broken belt you would still hear the motor running. most likely its in your cord or switch. check the main cord, connections to the switch, and also the motor supply cord that goes from the handle to the vacuum head.

Rainbow e2 system. Will not power up

the water basin has a safety on it so the unit cannot run without it. if you look on the bottom of the rainbow you can see a small oval shaped space that you can depress just to test and see if it still runs it will only run with this depressed.

Motor still runs--sounds like jet engine. do I need a new motor? or is there some sort of muffler that has malfunctioned? vacuum belongs to disabled mom---so trying to do work ourselves--cant afford much....

This little vac I think is actually made by Samsung. If it is ROARING and vibrating, either the bearings or suction fan is in bad shape. Remove the lid as if to inspect the belt and see if there is a visible intake opening with a plastic fan rotating inside. If so you have to inspect for damaged fan blade . A broken blade will cause the noise you describe and can be fixed on most vacs by carefully opening the fan housing and unscrewing, the fan from its threaded shaft. Then screwing on a new matching fan. Post back with more info and I`ll try to walk you thru the process

Power head has power but motor won't run

Circuit brealer switch may be bad, but the fact that Rainbow nozzle made this strange sound makes me think that it may have happened because there is something wrong with the motor.

While unplugged - remove the brush and belt. Try turning brush ends - see if they yurn easily... Try turning the motor shaft - see if it turns and if it does - if it turns smoothly and if makes any strange sounds...

To really test the motor you can just bypass the circuit breaker switch.

There is a switch, but could be a bad cord, or the motor went bad.
