My SandDisk Cruzer Thumb Drive has quit working. I have documents and pictures saved on this drive for safe keeping and now it is dead.
It all depends on how it is treated. In your pocket they can last months or days or years. If its the only place with certain data you need a data recovery specialist to salvage it. In the future, you should use at least 2 devices(one cloud based) to guarantee proper storage.

Lost password can not be recovered, but data can be, even after you format the thumb drive. Of course not all type of data is recoverable but some common media files and documents can be recovered.
