It all depends on how it is treated. In your pocket they can last months or days or years. If its the only place with certain data you need a data recovery specialist to salvage it. In the future, you should use at least 2 devices(one cloud based) to guarantee proper storage.

SOURCE: lost password and need the data from a sandisk cruzer thumb drive

Lost password can not be recovered, but data can be, even after you format the thumb drive. Of course not all type of data is recoverable but some common media files and documents can be recovered. There is this utility I found, which might help you, no guarantee, though. Check out this link: http://www.usbdriverecovery.com/flash-drive/removable-media.asp

Dear Friend,

IMPORTANT!: Save all your data first then, uninstall the U3 Software then, Format the drive to FAT32, pass all your data back to your thumb drive and try in your car radio. If the problem persist, try to format it to NTFS format.

It should appear in the sidebar of the Finder.

If not, then you have to reformat it:

**THIS WILL DELETE ALL THE DATA ON THE DRIVE**

1. Open Finder
2. Applications 3. On the left column, you should see your thumb drive. Click on it.
4. Click on the "Erase" tab near the top
5. For "Format:" select "FAT32"
6. Click on the "Erase..." button

Sandisk Cruzer 8gb Error

Make sure you are logged in as an administrator. I'd also try the thumb drive in a different computer just to make sure the problem isn't with the thumb drive itself. The drive could also be unformatted, or formatted with a filesystem for a different platform that can't be read by XP.

Sandisk Cruzer Micro lights up but won't read

I would say it's DOA. These thing don't seem to have a very long life span, even though I have the exact same one but I'm expecting it to go out at any time. I had a 128mb that bit the dust the same as yours. But try those free data recovery software on the net you may get lucky???

Sandisk flashdrive

Also known as pocket drives or thumb drives, your flash drive is basically a portable memory stick that acts like a hard drive, allowing you to carry documents, pictures, music, or any type of file with you.

When you plug it in to your usb port, after a minute or two, you access your thumb drive by double-clicking the My Computer icon, or using Windows Explorer. At that point you simply use it as you would any other drive.
