Why does mower experience drive power loss on inclines or under acceleration?

My Husqvarna LOY-TH20F42 has slowly been losing power over the last 2 years or so. If I have to go up a hill it will slow or even stop. If I depress the pedal fully it will not do anything for a few seconds and then it may whine or not but the wheels will stutter for a moment and then suddenly launch forward and seem to have good power and speed so long as I keep the pedal fully depressed. If I back off so I can go slower and I have to climb again or do a very tight turn it will slowdown or stop until I depress the pedal fully and it again delays (often whining) and acting as if its "spooling up" and then launches off at high speed. I want to suspect the hydrostatic transmission is low on oil but the manual says it a sealed unit and the oil doesn't require any maintenance. So what are the possible reasons for this problem and what are some solutions I could try (short of taking it to the local lawn tractor dealership)? I should add that I did try changing the drive belt (the only thing I've tried so far)... didn't solve the problem. I should also add the mower is about 5 or 6 years old and only has 218 hours on it. The engine runs fine all the time and doesn't strain or complain. Also there is no difference with the way it acts whether the blades are engaged or not.

It does sound like trans problem, sealed or not..take a look around the trans is there an oily area? If so there has to be a fill plug remove it and check the oil level...if ok your trans is going...good luck...

Get a new drive belt

Testimonial: "Thanks... that was the first thing I tried, so apparently the problem's not with the drive belt. Actually that's the only thing I've tried so far, I probably should have mentioned it."

check and make sure the belt is on right, you shouldnt have to push on the peddle to go faster,it should be fully engaged when released, you have the belt on the wrong way on the clutch pulleys, heres your parts manual http://www.husqvarna.com/ddoc/HUSI/HUSI2...

Husqvarna YTH2242 lawn tractor loss of drive.

You can check the belt tention, between the deck and the chassis just to see if it is loose, it would reqire removing the deck to replace the belt.

Hydrostatic on husqvarna cth 180 xp losing power

Check the drive belt. This belt runs from the engine to the transaxle. Look for abnormal wear and if the sides of the belt look glazed/shiny. Check the pulley mechanism that tightens the belt for proper operation and belt tension while engaged.
Try reducing the speed selector. This is equivalent to running in a lower gear. Your tractor works hard just to turn the blade. Going uphill requires additional power, so some reduction in speed is to be expected.

The mower starts easily but loses power and stalls out

You may need to adjust the fuel mixture screw on the carb to allow more fuel under load. And check to see if air cleaner is clean.

Hi, i have a 1992 2.8ltr diesel hilux and when i get to a slight incline it loses power you can have your foot flat in 3rd 4th or 5th and wont accelerate but when you get on the flat it goes fine. it only...

Check your service record for the last fuel filter change. 2 years or less is the recommended interval.

Top off you fuel tank to 1/2 or higher. A weak/failing fuel pump will give losing power condition on hill / high altitude / hot day.

Check the injectors and return lines (top of the injector) for leaks.

When was your last valve adjustment?
Head adjustment should be 1-2 years.

Problems accelerating / losing power

Mine did the exact same thing. It was the drive belt. Take the deck off, loosen the belt shield on the clutch pulleys (under the frame below the seat) and take the old belt off. You will have to disconnect the wiring to the electric clutch, route the belt over the motor pulley and through the clutch pulleys... and over the transmission pulley. It took me about an hour... not bad to do. It will be easier to jack up the front of the tractor so you can get under it easier.
