Radio no longer has any volume: Resets suggested dont work. How to pull this sucker apart?

Getting sense this was designed as a disposable radio - nearly impossible to pull it apart. Volume went dead 2 days ago after 5 years of faithful service. Everything still works - and it still tunes in the stations, but zero volume at all - theres the faintest of a buzz when a station tunes in. I've got nothing to lose, so i want to pull it apart and see if its a bad wire to the speaker assembly - anyone ever taken one apart? Kept pics? there are 2 small screws on back, they dont appear to hold anything in place! im now at the point where I'm stuffing a screwdriver in to the front circular assembly piece

It sounds like your radio has had its hospitality mode activated. The hospitality mode is a mode which is often used by hotels or similar establishments, who wish to set a maximum volume limit on the radio. To remove this volume limiter follow the steps below.
Turn the unit on
Turn the volume down to minimum, 00, volume
Press and hold power for 10 seconds until volume numbers flash
Turn the volume back up to 50 (max volume)
Press power again to verify new max volume position

Mine had no volume and the clock's time was changing randomly. I unplugged it for a night and it still behaved oddly. I unplugged it for over a week and upon reading Mr. Castillo's post, connected the radio to power and it is working properly without doing anything. Curious to see how long it will go.

It has reverted to the no volume state again and does not reset even after being unplugged for several days and trying the reset posted above.

SOURCE: The radio, one station is

  • How is the antenna connector looking on the back of the radio? Is the antenna in good condition? There is a little "F" style plug in back. Sometimes the connectors become worn on the back of the radio and often the antenna becomes worn on the connector end too. It sounds like your picking up a really close station but the antenna is not doing the job pulling any other radio stations in. This is for the FM stations only.

  • Your AM stations have a built in antenna. The wires on the back going to the connectors is your AM antenna leads. You can put and external antenna on the radio available at most Audio Stores and Hardware Stores. You need to unplug the other AM wires first and stick the new leads in them holes.

  • Sometimes a certain outlet can cause interference. Try a different outlet. FM TV can interfere with this radio as well. Try another room. Check the antenna connections. Most of the time one of these is the problem.

Regards, Tony

SOURCE: Volume won't go past 30

Turn on. Set volume to 00. Press & hold the volume knob for about 10 sec., until you hear a beep. Then turn volume up to the maximum that you would ever want, and then press the volume button again. It is now set.

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 radio and inside dome light sre not working. Radio 15A fuse is good. What do I look for?

Hi Steve:
You may have 2 separate problems so I'd try to approach it that way. RADIO - On this older truck, it may be that there is a separate in-line fuse for the radio. If you can see under the dash where the wires come from the radio, look for a red or black one that has an in-line fuse holder. Push the ends inwards and twist counterclockwise, then pull apart to get at the fuse. It is also possible that the "accessory" terminal of the ignition switch is no longer working. A continuity meter should help you resolve that.
DOME LIGHT - Pull the bulb and test to make sure it's working. Check for power at the bulb connection receptacle (socket). Dome lights typically are switched from the doors or by rotating the light switch. If the bulb is good, it should be a hide and seek game to find where the power is, and where it isn't. The shorter the distance between these points, the closer you are to the problem.
Patience, and a sense of humour. You'll get it.

03 Escape radio volume raises by itself. What could be the problem ?

Assuming your truck has cruise control, this has been a common thing with these vehicles. The radio's volume is designed to increase if the vehicle's Body Control Module sensed that:
-you rolled a window down
-you accelerated
Ford's recommended repair is to reprogram the BCM. Runs about $90-120 at most dealers.

Which fuse is the cd player in the fuse box

One circuit is constant power to keep the clock and station pre-set memory maintained. The other is for the radio in general. If the clock works, pull both radio fuses and put them back in one at a time to see which one is constant power. If one of them is blown, you can usually see the wire inside it is burned with a gap. I don't believe there is a separate fuse for the CD player apart from the one for the radio. If the radio works but the CD player doesn't, I'm guessing it's an internal problem.

I want to take the radio apart, but the antenna and turn on/off knob will not come off. How does the antenna and turn on/off knob come off on a T7400, T7450

Antenna is fixed and attached to the housing. The front and back housings must be first removed to get to it. The volume knob will pull straight up and off the volume potentiometer shaft. This is risky because the small clip which holds the knob in place usually gets stuck on the shaft and then you run the chance of not getting the knob to stay back on the radio.

Best regards.

My radio lights are on but no sound, what do I do??

Try to mess with the fade and balance. It's possible you have one or two bad speakers and the radio only has the bad ones getting power.
If you have a remote or can borrow a remote (or have steering wheel controls) try to change the volume with it. Your volume button could be bad on the radio.
Something else you may want to try; first make sure you have your unlock code for the radio! Then remove your radio from the dash. This will take some time but be patient you don't want to break anything. Once out unplug all the wires and wait about 10 min's. This will sometimes reset the radio but if this works it will most likely go back out in due time. This will give you time to get a new radio.
You could try to pull the fuses to the radio instead just make sure you get them all or disconnect the battery for a while. These two may not do anything sense some pcm or ecu have their own battery back up and the radio will use it for it's memory if it can.
Another way to check the speakers is to do a oil lift reset. If I remember right; you can do the reset though the radio and it should chime over the speakers.
Most likely the channels have burnt out and you will need to replace the radio. Stay with an OEM shop ebay.

No sound coming from XM radio/cd player/local radio on 2006 Saturn Vue. All lights, volume control work; just no sound.

Posting this in hopes of saving others from the same problem. Simply pull the premium amplifier fuse out and put it back in. You will find the fuse on page 5-96 of your owner's manual, it's in the underhood fuse block. It is labeled "PREM AUD". This resets the premium audio amplifier. Worked for us and saved us hundreds on replacement radio and installation.

Installed new radio now radio and dome light dont work

If you are looking for the fuse a good place to look is on the left side panel as you set on the passager's side. Pull that panel off and look on the panel that you pulled off and it will tell you which fuses go to the radio...pull that fuse out and look to see if there is a burnt mark on it; if so that maybe your problem.

Hello

Volume + power resets it - making the player turn off lets you know that the reset work

Will it play non-radio music files fine?

Once again, when you change the radio station, you must press the play or right-pointing arrow button, or it will just continue playing the last radio station that you had it turned to

If it still won't change, then autoprogram the unit and select presets like it suggests in pp.32-35 of the manual
