Other option is something has come adrift inside. Get a good DIY person with electrical knowledge to trace the main plug, cable and connections. If that fails to show something then move inside and check things like the motor brushes for wear, broken wire etc.

The most common problem when a vac is working perfectly and then won't work the next time is a bad plug. You can get a replacement plug at a hardware store and replace it or take it to your local vac shop for repair. The plug that you put into the wall outlet is what I am referring to.

Is there height adjustment on Oreck xl vacuum mind is hard to push over carpet

Hello,
There is no height adjustment, though you may want to check the wheels/rollers for hair and debris that may keep them from rolling well. If the wheels/rollers don't spin freely by hand, then you'll have to clean them.

My Oreck Xl was working. Turned it off to do other stuff. But the next few minutes whne I turned it on, it didn't turn on. But why?

You've probably tried all this but humor me, check the plug to make sure it's not loose, make sure the terminals at least feel like they're tight and still connected, the walk down the cord (unplugged), hand over hand to make sure there aren't any bulges or shallow feeling spots showing a problem in the wiring.

I would guess there is a fair amount of problems with the foot switch, but I don't know this, after plugging back in, slap the switch with your hand vigorously a few times, if corrosion or a fault is present, this might wake it up, at least give you an idea of where to head next if it tries to run.

Is your cord still retracting as normal?

Oreck hand held will not turn on

More than likely, one of three problems. You have a broken wire somewhere in the cord or inside the vacuum. Second, the switch could be bad, third, you have a bad motor. If you have access to a multimeter, you can check all three of those things out by checking for continuity through all parts of the vacuum. Hope this helps!

The XL21 uses many of the same parts as the XL Platinum.

I hope this helps.

I have the Oreck Sanapathic DMS2000 Handheld Steam Vacuum, but no steam comes out when I push the button. I hear the motor, is there any buttons I am missing or any help on how to make it work, been...

ORECK DMS2000 No Steam
First, tested tank and filter flow together using suction via
plastic tubing. Worked freely Second, removed pump
and disconnected hoses and terminals [watch location,
three terminals on pump, two plugs]. Pump has a slug inside
and I could blow water either way. Sucked white vinegar
both ways until check action returned. Use distilled water
in future!

Oreck XL 21

My old vacume had the same problem - the wire had a 'plug' on both ends. 1 to the wall outlet and 1 to the vacume, which you could pull out of the vacume. It was making poor contact at the vacume and eventialy burned out (melted)
See if the plug/wire to the unit is removable, if so is it damaged?,
could need a cleaning, or it may not be pushed in all the way.

Good Luck
