The inspection and troubleshooting of the mixer transmission is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the correct Part List manual around when you start to disassemble your mixer. If you're lacking one, you can download it from the KA website (http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home).
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals& Guides> and select “Consumer” for User Type, then enter the 6 character model number, in this case K45SSW, and then select the first file under Owners Manuals (2) K45SSWH-0.pdf (2730.37 KB) (be sure to check that it matches your mixer).
The first file is the full 86 page ‘Instructions and Recipes’ manual in English that was originally included with your mixer. The second file is a 60 page multi-lingual (English, French and Spanish) Instruction manual without recipes.
While you’re downloading the Owner’s Manual, I would recommend downloading the accompanying Part List Manual, too. Select the file under Parts List (1) K45SSWH0.pdf (341.41 KB) and save that on your computer. If your ever have to troubleshoot or repair your mixer the Parts List manual will be an invaluable document to have on hand when taking your mixer apart and reassembling it.

If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> Enter the 6 character model number, in your case use KSM50P (Your K5SS mixer falls within this manual), and select the first file KSM50P.pdf (438.31 KB) listed under Parts List (4) and then check to verify this matches your mixer model. Turn to pages 6 & 7, titled ?Motor And Control Parts?, which provides an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer?s electrical components, along with all the part names and numbers. Locate Illus No 47, Brush holder assembly that includes Illus. Nos. #28, 32, 33, 34, & 46, and Illus. No. 29, Brush & Spring assembly respectively. Make sure you orient each bruch correctly following the illustration here: The Parts List diagrams along with the picture above regarding the orientation of the brushes should get your mixer powered back up and operational. Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> Enter the 6 character model number, in your case use KSM50P (Your K5SS mixer falls within this model range), and then select this file: KSM50PPWH0.pdf (5156.65 KB) from the Owners Manuals (9) list and this file: KSM50P.pdf (438.31 KB) listed under Parts List (4). Check to verify they match your mixer model. You can save them to your PC hard drive, and then you can print a hard copy if you wish, or just refer to it when you need to use it.
The reason I suggest downloading the Parts List manual is that should you decide to try and troubleshoot and fix your KA mixer, this manual will be invaluable in the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer along with listing all the part names and numbers. Having the correct part names and numbers is critical when reordering replacement parts when your mixer eventually will stop working.

Hi MITCH, Happy New Year! Somebody at Sunbeam must have been asleep when the mixer passed by on the production line...duh? I hate when that happens. The good news is that you can download a PDF Users Manual from the Sunbeam website. Just click on this link Heritage Series 2353 Mixmaster and look for your M-I-L’s model to about ½-way down the page. Open the file and save it to your PC.
I’m not very keen with the way Sunbeam lays out their User’s Manuals. You’ll need to do some editing and repaginating to get it into a format that your M-I-L- can use, but at least you’ll have it. You can send it to her electronically or print just the English pages and mail; your choice.

Hi RSTOCK7. You can easily download a PDF version of your Owners Manual from the KA website at: (http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home).
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals& Guides> and enter the 6 character model number, in your case, use KSM90PS, and select the last file listed that appears under Owners Manuals (20): KSM90PSWW0.pdf (2930.74 KB) and save that file to your PC. You’ll need to have Adobe Reader to be able to open it.
After downloading your Owner’s manual, I strongly recommend downloading the last file listed under Parts List (16) manual, too: KSM90PSWW0.pdf (354.08 KB).
The Parts List manual provides exploded view diagrams for the various assemblies of your mixer along with the part names and numbers so you can order repair parts and replace them yourself when your mixer goes out of warranty; one year from purchase date.
You can print both files and keep them in a binder along with your cook books or keep them electronically on your computer to look at when ever you need to reference them.

Hi. Goto kitchenaid.com. Click on the Customer Care button, click on find manuals, in the search window, enter k45sswh. this page will show the operating manual and farther down the page the parts manual. Download both these files.

Go to mendingshed.com and locate their FREE kitchenaid service manual and download it. This manual will greatly assist you or a repair person should your mixer ever need repair.

A word of caution...Do not overload the mixer with too much bread or cookie dough or it will cause damage to the transmission. Use the recommended capacities found in the manual.
