It sounds like your drive belt might be broken you can get a new one if you go to www.repairclinic.com enter in your model number and it should cost around 9$ the other possibility is the tension pulley or if it doesn't sound like your motor is running but most likely the drive belt .

Usually with your indications it is something with the blower fan. So hot ar is not sent from the heating elecment to the drum. BUT before you start ordering parts, check the simple things first. Check to make sure that the dryer vent to open from the machine to the outside. That would also restrict air flow and cause your indications.

Number 7 is your problem most likely. Unplug the dryer.
Remove the dust cover and the filter chute. See the fuse?

I use a shop vac to clean out the dryer.

I always take the drum out and clean her up. I use zoomspout oil on
the idler and rollers because it is safe for dryers and heaters too.

You could have a build up of lent inside the dryer which might have ignited. Dryer should be dissasembled and cleaned.
Could be that your motor is over heating.
Depends on what type of smell your smelling;.If its the motor over heating, motor would have to be replaced.

Look in the whirlpool wedsite for you make and model and for spare parts list.
