This is a hard question ,ill start with the text book answer , NO the idle should be low enough to disengage the clutch and remove power from head . but in reality this always is not possible , me I judge a clutch and engine idle % to be working correct if I can put cutting head on ground and not have it take off with throttle closed off

I have an echo gt 2000 weed eater. I was using it the other day and it was working great and all of a sudden the trimmer head would not spin. What could it be?

one of two things has happened. 1 the trimmer head has melted where it gets driven by the shaft and needs to be replaced or 2 you have a fault in the drive line

Grass trimmer head keeps turning without power applied to throttle

On an Echo, this means that the clutch is staying engaged to the walls of the clutch drum. Either the clutch drum is loose and the clutch pads are catching it as it turns, or the idle on the engine is set too high and the centrifugal clutch is just opening enough to catch the drum and spin it. Check the clutch housing and your idle speed.

My TB70SS cranks and runs perfect! The problem is the clutch seems to not engage. The head will spin at idle speed, but, when I pull the throttle trigger, it seems to bog a bit, and the head almost quits...

There may be an issue with the clutch or the clutch drum. Some disassembly may be required if the string head doesn't spin quickly when accelerating the engine. The clutch itself is threaded onto the crankshaft of the engine near the handle end and the clutch drum is screwed into the end of the crankshaft. If you can disassemble to that point, you will be able to diagnose your clutch problem...maybe it is worn severely and needs replacing.

Trimmer starts but the spool wont turn anymore

you're trimmer could have one of two problems, One, if it has a clutch on the engine,( the way you would tell is if it doesn't spin when it idles. it has a clutch) Two, your trimmer would spin all the time, they use round flexable cables stamped square on both ends, which fit into square sockets one at the engine one at the trimmer head, so you're problem is either a worn out clutch, or, the cable is broken, or, one maybe both sockets have become rounded out. I hope this helps you out. Bob

Cutting head on 29cc trimmer will not stop rotating at idle, cleaned filter, changed oil, cleaned spark arrester, tried adjusting idle speed, nothing seemed to help

You didn' t list the model number. Have you tried placing the head on the grass? does it stop then? It has a centrifugal clutch, if the idle speed is too fast, it will spin. There could be a broken spring or dirt in the clutch keeping it engaged.

Motor works fine, but trimmer will not rotate

Have an assistant start and hold the trimmer. At idle, there should still be a little drag on the clutches to make the shaft spin on that split shaft trimmer with the accessory head removed. No need to rev it or do anything fancy, but teamwork will make it safer.

Now forget about the engine and clutches - does the accessory head spin freely when turned by hand (removed from engine still!) and with a clear rotation of the shaft end visible inside the connector socket? Is the shaft end square with sharply defines angles, or rounded off? Does swapping in a different accessory function normally and as expected?

Sometimes the nub end of the shaft wears. Worse, the socket on the engine side has eaten itself to pieces. Worse, worse yet, clutches in the engine side that engage the accessory shaft are worn and there is simply no transmission of power. Good luck, hopefully this info will set your boots in the right direction!

Can't get thespool off the head of echo 210

Nothing is wrong if it is just the head spinning. The idle is adjusted too high. Simply adjust the idle down and it should settle down for you.

The idle screw is usually large and will be located on the carburetor. Turn counter clock-wise to adjust downward.

If you need further assistance, let me know.

Ryobi RLT30CES line trimmer head problem

Many small line trimmers lack a clutch system by design so this could be normal.
