After my Acer Aspire 5100 sleeps and the screen does not return

When my Acer Aspire 5100 laptop goes to sleep, the screen will not return when I try to wake it up. The screen returns only to the blue section.

If the computer is set to hibernate, it will return ok. But if the screen simply sets for a while, it goes to sleep with a black screen. When you hit any key or move the mouse, it will take a long time to go from black (blank) to blue with the acer Aspire Series blue background but that is a far as it will go.
