See if big red knob has a PILOT or LIGHT setting and put it on that setting. Next look at knob on bottom-- it should have a circle cutout on it that needs to align with the pilot push button. The cutout lets the button be pushed in. While holding button in---light the pilot and keep holding the button in for about 3 minutes. If everything is working right with the water heater, after 3 minutes or so you can let go of the button and the pilot should remain on. If it stays on. turn the smaller button to the run or heat position and the big burner should come on. Then set the big heat control knob for the heat setting you want.

SOURCE: Hot water heater is not working correctly on electric

Check that the by-pass valve(s) on or near back of water heater are in the proper position. If your stumped on how they should be for normal operation, remember this. Cold water has to flow into bottom of tank, so that valve needs to be open straight into that fitting. Then the hot comes out the top, so that valve has to be open as well. Any valves in between those lines need to be closed, otherwise it will mix cold and hot . If still not sure, get back to me, with location of any valves there, and I'll guide you through it.

Atwood 6 gal gas/electric hot water heater seems to have a short. When breaker in travel trailer for the water heater is switched on, it immediately trips the GFI in my garage circuit.

best solution is to replace it. you can tru and replace elements, Disconnect the wires that go to heater usually on the top. separate the wires and go turn on the power, if the GFCI trips again, you either have wiring problem or gfci is bad call an electrician to replace the wires or Gfci

If water heater is plugged in and outlet has power... then water should be hot.
If no water inside tank, and tank is plugged in, and outlet has power, then element is burned out.

What you really need to know is what the maximum flow rate and at what temperature you need. These do not store water, they heat it as it passes through.

I have a Atwood 10 gallon electric/ propane water heater on the Hornet travel trailer I purchased used. There are two switches on the wall, one is an on/off switch that lights up and the oither is just an...

The two switches control the water heater either in the gas or electric mode. The switch with the lights would be for the gas operation, and the switch without lights would be for the electric mode. Prior to operating either switch, make sure the water tank is full of water. Turn your hot water tap on, if water comes out, tank is full. Connect trailer to 110 Volt source, turn circuit breakers on, Place switch without lights to on position. If water does not heat in 45 minutes, Install new heat proble. The gas mode should be repaired by someone that is familiar with that system. Atwood can provide you with a local service center.
